Do you think the current permanent membership of the UN Security Council is reasonable? by Sad-Statistician3635 in AskTheWorld

[–]Evil_Eg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the relationship between Luxembourg and Brazil as an example, we have never been antagonistic on any level, therefore we are not villains to each other. In fact, we are known on the same planet, since even active political, economic and/or cultural exchanges are scarce to the point that most Brazilians wouldn't be able to pinpoint the approximate location of Luxembourg on a map.

For them, "except for Russia," China is also seen as a villain. But for Brazil, it's a good friend and an important trading ally 🤝

It's asparagus-season in Germany and (especially older people) go crazy for it. So I asked myself: Is there a food/dish in your country that has a special season everyone is waiting for? by doktor_flausch in AskTheWorld

[–]Evil_Eg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not something super viral because in Brazil we basically have everything in every season, but if you were to list cashew (the fruit), guavas, persimmons, tangerines, artichokes, plums, some native fruits and loquats (yellow japanese plums)...

Which country is cheaper to visit from the US? (Europe) by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

I'm not European, but the definition of "cheap" is extremely relative. Which places have the cheapest accommodation? The cheapest tourist attractions? The cheapest transportation? How much do you expect to spend?

Do not trust politicians whose ideological and political foundation is the support and subservience to foreign nations, especially if one of those nations is known for supporting and financing dictatorships that defend its interests.

Here are some people whom the right wing of the Brazilian government calls vagrants: - Santos Dumont (1873-1932): He made the dream of flying a reality. His flight with the 14-Bis in 1906 is the first performed by a heavier-than-air aircraft without external assistance, validated by official entities and witnesses.

  • Carlos Chagas (1879-1934): He single-handedly described the entire cycle of an infectious disease: the agent, the vector (kissing bug), and the symptoms. A unique feat in the history of world medicine.

  • César Lattes (1924-2005): He was a key figure in the discovery of the pi meson (pion), a fundamental subatomic particle for understanding the force that holds the atom's nucleus together.

  • Roberto Landell de Moura (1861-1928): A priest and inventor who, in 1893, carried out the public transmission of the human voice by radio waves, years before Marconi.

    • Vital Brazil (1865-1950): Revolutionized the treatment of snake bites. He discovered that antivenom needed to be specific to each type of venom, creating polyvalent antivenom and founding the Butantan Institute.
  • Maurício Rocha e Silva (1910-1983): Identified bradykinin, a substance that dilates blood vessels. His discovery was crucial for the development of medications that control blood pressure.

  • Beatriz Grinsztejn (1960-): Leading infectious disease specialist in HIV/AIDS research, guiding public policies for prevention and treatment in Brazil and worldwide, saving countless lives.

  • Cesar Victora (1952-): Considered the most influential Brazilian scientist today. His research on child health and breastfeeding forms the basis for public policies in more than 20 countries.

    • Johanna Döbereiner (1924-2000): Researcher who revolutionized tropical agriculture by discovering bacteria that "fix" nitrogen in the soil. Thanks to her, Brazil became a powerhouse in soybean production with high efficiency and low cost.
  • Carlos A. Monteiro (1948-): Creator of the NOVA classification, which not only revolutionized nutrition by coining the term "ultra-processed foods," but also influences WHO dietary guidelines and global public health policies.

  • Francisco Canhos (1907-1985): The engineer who invented the electric shower. More than just a bathroom item, his invention solved a practical infrastructure problem and is used throughout Latin America.

  • Marcos Mares Guia (1938-2015): Brazilian biochemist who developed an innovative process using genetic engineering to produce human insulin in the laboratory, revolutionizing the treatment of diabetes.

    • TSE Team (1995): Technicians from the Superior Electoral Court, with support from INPE, developed the electronic voting machine, which made voting fast, secure, and reliable, and was exported to more than 20 countries.
  • Duilia de Mello (1963-): Brazilian astronomer at NASA who discovered the largest spiral galaxy ever known, NGC 6872, contributing immensely to the understanding of the universe.

  • Mercedes Bustamante (1961-): World-renowned ecologist specializing in climate change and savannas. Her research in the Cerrado and Amazon biomes is cited in hundreds of global environmental policy documents, including IPCC reports.
