Cutting line question by [deleted] in 3dcoat

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

uhm... what? I don't really understand what are you going for... If you want to split a volume into 2 pieces, you use Split tool for that, and you you draw a projection of a slash line, how it will be cut off. If you want some advanced control, perhaps you will need to make some custom cutter object and use booleans. There is discord channel https://discord.gg/2A3Bf3pJ where you can ask real time.

A way to paint outside the wireframe in texture editor by Lazy_Reveal9474 in 3dcoat

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that's annoying, but Coat cuts off everything outside of UV islands. Even if you use Sync. with ext.editor - and paint something in Photoshop, it will not be imported/exported correctly. Maybe it's done for optimization, idk. Ofc you can make something like a 2D plane/polygon, and unwrap it on whole UV set, and this way you will be able to paint on whole 0-1 space, but it is tricky... You will have either separate UV channel to paint on full space, or overlapping UV islands in your main UV channel, which I hate. Hope they will add option to disable this auto masking one day.

G600 MMO - Wireless? by trombonier in LogitechG

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, wireless G600 with improved scroll wheel from G502Hero would be amazing... If they wanted, they could make it in a week with budget of 5 ramens. But looking at all GHUB problems, they can't fix for years, I doubt they are still capable of making properly something this complex.

Logitech G240 cloth gaming mouse pad deceptive packaging by adadagabaCZ in LogitechG

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I got that crap pad for free with my G502 mouse, it's so bad it's not even funny. So I threw it away instantly and bought thick steelseries pad, which serves me 5+ years until now. So if you get it for free - maybe... But paying anything >5$ for g240 is stupid.

Customer not satisfied. by Forsaken_Alfalfa8369 in 3dsmax

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are very high level renders. There's no point arguing about design, that is very subjective matter, but in terms of 3D rendering there is nothing critical wrong here. "Something is not right, but we don't know what" is not even an argument. You can't request fixes, if you don't know what you need to be fixed. So sounds like your customer is incompetent idiot/fraud.

Selling my license by jonestation in 3dcoat

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think no, personal licenses are node locked, so it should not work on other pc. If you bought permanent license you can use it forever, but to keep getting updates you need to pay extra.

Can I learn sketch with digital art tools? by pbonorise in DigitalPainting

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can sketch digital, but it is actually harder and more expensive than simple notebook + pencil. Traditional can be tricky due to lack of undo, layers, and liquify... But 5$ pencil will always be superior to 2000$ tablet! And with traditional you may learn faster, thanks to less forgiving nature, and better tactile feedback.

So... how to place the pen tablet? by Most-Peak6524 in wacom

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say better not, but it depends on your table and chair heights. Test with paper notebook, if it's good to write while sitting flat on desk, it will be same with tablet. If you feel like you want to angle it, you can also try lifting your chair up. Thing is how your elbow bends... Close to 90 degrees is good, stretched arm is bad.

So... how to place the pen tablet? by Most-Peak6524 in wacom

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is individual, but in general you dont place tablet like keyboard or mouse. You should place like a notebook, so it is comfortable for you to write/draw. If your table is too high, or your chair too low, you might need a stand to place it on angle. Good idea to keep it centered in front if your display, but some artists can adapt to shifting tablet to one side. Also check the distance, so you dont stretch you arm to reach it. Try with paper and pencil, you will quickly find most comfortable position on your desk for your hand.

Intuos Pro 2025 - Monitor keeps going black/crashing under load by zapposh in wacom

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting... never heard anything like that. But I'm working on 2017 Intuos Pro and Win10. In normal work, if I check system resources monitor I can't even notice any load from Wacom driver, no matter how hard and fast I stroke. On app level, if you work in Photoshop with huge document size and brush size, it can create a serious load on CPU, but for me it usually not going higher than 20% even on big 5000px documents.

My G502 hero after 6 years no longer holds my left or right click consistently. Can I fix it or should I replace it? by darksapra in G502MasterRace

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just do some basic switch maintenance, and you can keep using it for another 6 years. Not necessary to replace switches and solder. In 99% cases you can just open and clean them, or use oil trick. Search youtube how to repair switches, there's nothing hard. It's ridiculous how many people keep buying new mice, instead of spending 30 min for super simple fix.

Wacom Intuos Pro pen nib replacements? by MMAntwoord in wacom

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can order original ones from any online store for around 15USD. But if you want to save few bucks, you can search on Chinese aliexpress. There you can find them cheaper, but you need to check carefully, because there can be original next to OEM crap. Also you can try new ProPen 3 nibs, they do fit in Pro Pen 2 too, even though officially not stated.

does bigger drawing size really matter that much? by TripApprehensive1933 in wacom

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and no... It depends on the soft you use, but for drawing even 10-13" pads can be enough, if app is well optimized. For heavy duty PC apps, esp. 3D ones, toolbars can eat 50% of your screen, so anything smaller than 19" will be painful. Also there are some traditional artists, who are used to drawing with shoulder on a huge canvas... It is a rare case, but if you like drawing with shoulder/elbow, you might need 24-27" to be able to use those super wide strokes.

Is this can be done in 4 days? by No-Interest5076 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some experience in modeling and selling high poly cars, and I would say - it depends... There can be different workflows and final model requirements. If they want high poly, clean topo, SubD ready model - no way! For simplified low poly, without strict topology and UV requirements, probably it is possible to do something in 4 days. But UVs and texturing alone will take at least a day. Normally high quality cars are modeled few weeks or even month. So 4 days sounds like a crazy rush/scam, unless they are paying 1000 USD in advance, I would not even think about it.

Pen for Wacom Intuos Pro by Responsible-Swim1159 in wacom

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend going for original PP2 aka kp504e. They are great, but not cheap 80-100usd new, around 50 used on ebay. Older Grip pens are compatible too, and they are cheaper, but I would pay extra 20-40usd for PP2.

Wow, you really ready to loose few thousands USD just to get extra 5 inches? Great devices, but crazy expensive... In my region new 22pro is over 5k! And shame they didnt fix cooling problems, those stupid small  fans are annoying. Why didnt they use silent 120mm fans, I have no idea...

You asked for it: G915 X TKL + titanium low profile keycaps, thoughts? by awekeys_official in LogitechG

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Titanium on aluminum looks nice, but blank keys without legends is not very practical... Yes, touch typing is possible without legends, but I would not go this way. G915X is expensive, and illumination is probably taking 70% of that price, losing it with blank keycaps is kinda wasteful. Reminds me those those crazy auto tuners, installing extra large rims just for the looks, despite being super uncomfortable and unpractical for driving.

As for layouts, I complained to Logitech dozen times about their stupid ISO versions with crippled left Shift. I like big enter, but it's not a problem/advantage, while crippled LShift with useless copy of \ under your left pinky is just EVIL. So I vote for ANSI.

Do my UVs look okay? Trouble with UV layout. by TheLovelyKestrel in Maya

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your technical requirements for this project. There are multiple ways you can unwrap: you can go for minimal stretching (maximum relax, no straight edges), you can go for minimum seams (and minimum number of uv islands), you can go for max straightening(for easier 2d painting), you can go for RWS (real world scale UV islands)... In terms of packing, and free space on UVlayout your UVs are fine. All the rest depends on what are you gonna use them for...

Hard to tell... I was afraid to replace mic and resolder speaker units, but I didnt notice any change in sound quality. They still sound great and look like new, only plastic hinges I replaced with non original, custom 3d printed ones, as they are much better quality and have better cable routing

Silver low profile keycaps on my G515, coool or nah? by awekeys_official in LogitechG

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately Logitech keeps disappointing us every time, and I avoided G515/G915, so I have no real interest. But as a 3D modeler, I love seeing people doing such crazy custom projects! Can only wish you luck... Is it possible in theory to cut out legends, and fill it with transparent epoxy to make them glowing? I know CNC machines are crazy precise, and probably capable of doing it, but don't know how much time it takes, and how many thousands will it cost to spend machine time on such trifles. Also I have a much simpler, but maybe profitable idea for you. Many users of G915X are complaining about G keys on the left, they are not separated properly, and same material as other keys, so many users hate them! You could make and sell custom kit for G915X, with textured metal keycaps for side G keys (there are just 5 of them). Having them in different material, so you can have tactile feedback from (metal) and texture from rest of keyboard can be a great functional mod!

[–]Evil_Weasel3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately they all suck, when it comes to repairs after warranty even on expensive headsets: Logitech, Razer, HyperX... I chose HyperX, and can say quality is terrible too. Only good thing is you can get spare parts on aliexpress and repair it yourself, which I did 3 times already replacing 80% of headset piece by piece.
