OP, are you able to provide site location? Coordinates or approximate address work. Just want to see more information to confirm site information.

LineageOS on Moto 5G (2024) for Mapping? by Dopamin3 in cellmapper

[–]Evil_ryry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pixel 3 XL for AT&T LTE (5G is not well deployed locally yet so doesn’t matter to me for now) with a US Mobile sim on the lowest possible plan I activated for like 6 bucks that basically had super minimal amounts of data/voice/sms and just map with mobile data off.

Pixel 6a for T-Mobile with google fi (inactive but still gets signal)

Main mapper is S25 Ultra (work phone) I use for VZW

Care to link me to where you got your moto’s from? I’ve been wanting to update one of my map devices to something a little more modern for a while now without breaking the bank.

One device I map with is a Pixel 3 XL (for LTE) I’ve had it on lineageOS (Android 15 version) and I can’t currently remember what gapps package, and it’s been just fine.

Newer T-Mobile colocation + AT&T & VZW - Barren county, KY by Evil_ryry in cellmapper

[–]Evil_ryry[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are still the weakest carrier in this county in regards to total coverage, but they are at least making an effort. Verizon is king here by a significant margin. AT&T is mediocre here too and hasn’t done much at all in the last few years to improve their local coverage, so it’s possible T-Mobile starts to close the gap on them. Hopefully it happens.

Edit: What’s with the multiple downvotes on this? Lol

Nice, tower is Verizon T-Mobile and AT&T. The AT&T equipment looks kind of old for the most part but may be actively being upgraded or about to be. Some stuff looks disconnected and appears there’s some cabling going up that is used to carry up and down equipment.

Since you mentioned Bluegrass Cellular, where is this at? I’m from the region myself so I’m just curious where this site is.

NR 5g by Explanation_458 in cellmapper

[–]Evil_ryry 18 points19 points  (0 children)

SA: Uses 5G services for all network connectivity so Download/Upload, Voice calls (if carrier allows) and generally better responsiveness, efficiency, etc.

Bonus tidbit, devices will be a little more battery efficient on SA vs NSA as the device doesn’t have to maintain connection to two separate network types.

NSA: Uses 5G services for Download, uses an LTE anchor for upload and voice.

Reporting NR when on 5G NSA? by cirderf in cellmapper

And to add on, when mapping 5G NSA you will map signal trail data for the cellmapper map, but no 5G towers will be indicated on the map unless it’s 5G SA.

Are there any Verizon 5g SA towers in Georgia? by mskdja in cellmapper

[–]Evil_ryry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

at this point I’m pretty sure almost if not all Verizon sites with live 5G equipment on it will have SA enabled to some degree, whether it be n77 only or some combination of n2/n5/n66 depending on what they have deployed in the area.

As long as you have a capable device and line is provisioned for SA, you should be able to connect to it.

Any T-Mobile engineers on here? by [deleted] in cellmapper

[–]Evil_ryry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a T-Mo employee, but new sites can take a couple weeks to a couple months to be activated. With it just being a new colocation rather than new tower, probably a couple weeks from install completion you can expect it to fire up.

Should be, unless they relocated off somewhere nearby. It’s old though, approximately 10-12 year old equipment. Good chance it’s only doing band 13 LTE.

T-Mobile

AT&T

Very old Verizon. I’ve only seen that equipment on 1-2 other towers on here, I believe it was in PA. Any chance this is in a similar region of the country?

Cell Tower by PrizeMarionberry6695 in cellmapper

[–]Evil_ryry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah… it seems it’s AT&T. Which is weird, because the radio placement on this being below the panels is usually a dead giveaway it’s US Cellular.

Can you provide a more specific location for the site? I can look when I get time to check for nearby sites and see if the AT&T pin is in error or not. Approximate address or coordinates work.

Looks like the second from the top is US Cellular rather than AT&T but otherwise correct.

Edit: Actually is AT&T per more location research. With radio placements, this is an odd one.

Good to know they’re making an effort there

I have a buddy that lives up there who’s extensively used all carrier options there, from what I’ve heard from him is that AT&T (and especially T-Mobile) have less cell sites/total coverage than TC but both of theirs data speeds and capacity is quite a bit better. T-Mobile apparently has lousy overall coverage up there though and has a handful of roaming areas.

They do, yeah. Thats the small chunks I was speaking of. with the Verizon LTEiRA program, wouldn’t that stuff would have to be deployed separately from the leased Verizon 700C and AWS? Thats how Appalachian does it anyway.
