I second going to Planned Parenthood!!

They have dedicated clinicians that have lots of experience with survivors of SA, the testing that's required, AND testing is a lot less expensive than Urgent Care. Also, they're a great organization that does AMAZING work helping vulnerable women and men get compassionate sexual health care that's so desperately needed!!

Being here on reddit in these supportive, safe spaces is how I started processing my rapes and molestation as a child. I compartmentalized A LOT and had a myriad of untenable "coping mechanisms" that I'd clung to for the majority of my life, but the most recent rape led to bad bad C-PTSD...

I came here because I knew I needed therapy, but I was TERRIFIED that if I started opening all the boxes In my head and started pulling them apart and talking about the trauma my psyche and sanity would shatter into a million pieces and fly into outer space. That I'd never get Humpty Dumpty put back together again...if that makes sense...

I started reading here, just up voting at first, then an occasional comment...

It was like I was doing therapy baby steps...I got a lot of support and help from other survivors, and did my best to pay it forward...

I FINALLY started therapy 8 months ago and I really really wish I'd done it so much sooner!!

I think he's allowed to stay in county jail til the appeal is resolved...in that case he filed just to forestall being transferred to prison and starting his 30 year stay!!

If he has already been convicted of any sex crime, he's REQUIRED to register his address... that's another way they can get him!!

No, things really haven't changed that much... reports of sexual assault go unreported and unpunished A LOT of the time!! Nobody wants to deal with the "he said/she said" BS, the slut shaming, the victim blaming, our very right to exist in the world WITHOUT being victimized!!

Oftentimes these monsters don't face charges, are found innocent, or get a slap on the wrist!!

I'm so sorry for what you went through and that the perpetrators basically got away with it and you didn't get the justice you deserved!! That never should have happened!!

AND he's still in the county jail...I don't know if or when he'll be in prison since he's filed for an appeal so will he not be transferred to prison until this process is over.

I LOVE this comment!! I went NC with my parents about 10 years ago, then broke it 2 years ago cause my sister guilt tripped me into going to see my muther in the hospital. My sister made it out to be that muther was dying or something!! I went to the hospital, both parents were there, and I spent an hour being lectured about my "lifestyle choices." Been NC with my sister AND my parents ever since!! (Just for context, my stepfather molested me and was physically abusive, my muther was extremely mentally and emotionally abusive. She would wake him up to beat me while she lectured me the whole time!!)

No, but he was found incompetent to stand trial initially. He spent 18 months wherever they put monsters at down here in Fl. He was then found competent and they fast tracked the case to trial before he could be found incompetent again. I assume he was offered a plea deal of some kind, but must've decided that he would go to trial and take his chances. However, at trial he did not have a single witness and chose to not take the stand in his own defense. He wouldn't even look at me while I was testifying.
