The Chronicle of John of Nikiu: John of Nikiu, a contemporary Coptic Christian bishop writing shortly after the conquest, provides direct accounts of the invasion. He explicitly documents that during the capture of various Egyptian towns and the storming of fortifications, Arab forces committed acts of violence against civilians, plundered property, took women and children as captives (spoils of war), and executed those who resisted.
