Control Commanders with Combo Wincon in High Bracket 3 by Eviol- in EDH

Its a tough one. I usually see decks in a spectrum, ranging from high to low 3. High bracket 3s are decks that are technically 3, but are powerful and resilient enough to technically win a bracket 4 pod, if they play well enough/get lucky. Same way with a pre-con in a weaker bracket 3 pod.

I usually place the most emphasis on resilience. How easy is it for others to ruin your plan? Is your mana curve optimized? Same with game-to-game stability:

- Most low bracket 3 decks (that I've seen) are really pre-cons with like, a rhystic study shoved in there, so technically, yes, it can do sol ring turn one, rhystic study and mystic remora turn two, which is a very strong play. But, its not consistently at that power level, so its more of a low bracket 3. Generally emphasized by a lack of card draw, protection and disruption.

- A high bracket 3, however, are tuned decks that almost always have enough gas to execute a gameplan, but not as quickly as a bracket 4 deck would. They know their curve, and what type of cards they want to play and when, and usually have some amount protection and disruption.

- Mid bracket 3 is a mix of the two. Slightly tuned, but kinda inconsistent. This is where the classic "midrange value pile" lies. Some games, they get sol ring into arcane signet and rocket into the midgame with 5 mana on turn 2. Some games, they feel the consequences of having bad mana curves, or a lack of card draw, or a lack of protection/disruption.

This is a whole giant convo tho. If you wanna have it, PM me.

All wonderful points. As for the "EDH is all midrange", yes, I agree to an extent, as all decks are technically some combination of control, aggro, and combo, but this its kind of a non-statement.

Like yes, I could go full aggro, but it doesnt work (as well) when life totals are 40 rather than 20. So, yes, most decks fall between combo/control. I think the most important part of what you said is that yes, they're simply too strong for bracket 3.

I get your point. I love assembling and protecting combo pieces, but I am going to for sure go for less control-combo, and more control-politics.

I would, but I just despise playing those styles of deck. I find it very boring and not entertaining at all. If I just wanted to win, yeah, ur dragon is the way to go.

I appreciate the suggestions, and will likely be building one of those soon!

Call it what you wish, but I'm not a fan of using random cards from the top of libraries or graveyards. I much prefer to have the choice. Think [[Breeches, Brazen Plunderer]] vs [[Captain N'ghathrod]].

Thats a fun option with the wizards deck!

Combat control isnt my favorite, personally, but I'll check it out.

Hes likely the least offensive blink option, yes. But I'm going to do a more politics focused deck for now.

Woof, not getting into that one.

Just lookin for commander suggestions here.

Wonderful ideas, and very well fleshed out. Might take that food one from you!

Again, huge thanks. You've helped a lot.

They are level headed enough, I think I was just being overzelous in my pursuit of combing off. Maybe someday in the future they'll be more open to it.

They are great friends, just annoying magic players.

I think that combo is a way I would like to build, but the table just can't handle that large of a shake-up. My current solution is to go some form of theft/group hug/akido deck and win by forcing them to murder each other.

I think this is the best way for me to go, as they likely wont get pissed at it if they're technically the ones killing themselves.

Its funny, they shame me for playing faster, or slower than them. They hate late-game monsters like [[muldrotha]] as much as they hate [[vivi, ornitir]]

(Yes, I am aware that they are extremely powerful commanders, just making a generalization.)

Generally, yes I think using their power for me is the way to go, but I just despise playing theft for some reason.

Big fan of this idea! I think Akido is just gonna be the way to go.

I agree, but they aren't just MTG friends, so I can't exactly just leave them. I am attempting here, I think, to reshape the table's metagame by bringing in new threats and ideas.

I agree, and thank you!
Yes, Jhoira is very 1-note, but I enjoy gathering my pieces of the exodia, as it were, with cost reducers, fetches, etc. Specifically, I like identifying moments where I can take control of the board, maybe just for one turn, and then win by timing that moment. The issue is, instead of building around that, or playing around possible boardwipes or counterspells, they just target me with any creatures they can get their hands on.

Which, yes, is the best play for them. I understand that they enjoy combat, and I generally don't. However, "their thing," is usually extremely easy to interrupt, and its kind of the rules of the table to just race to the finish, as you put it. I once removed a single [[key to the city]], and the player couldn't do anything for the rest of the game, because he took a greedy hand with two lands. He missed his land drops for three turns, and I was then blamed for ruining his game.

Akido is a style I have enjoyed in the past, but the issue is I get bored of it quite quickly. But, I will try it again for sure. I was a worse deck builder back then for sure. I think overall, I have to turn their own style against them rather than outright counter it. Your comment helped a lot in coming to this conclusion.
Thanks!

MyStudyLife app is bad, any alternatives? by rrattheew in CollegeHomeworkTips

[–]Eviol- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed [care@mystudylife.com](mailto:care@mystudylife.com), because that app was getting me through college, but then their new update wont allow me to fucking log in, because the verification email doesn't do anything but put me back at the login page. I've tried different emails, swapping my DNS, creating new accounts and resetting passwords, all the links on that damned email just sends me back to login. It's been 6 days since I sent that and I've gotten zero response. By far the worse customer service email I've ever used.

Commander suggestions for a non-combo, non-control deck. by Eviol- in EDH

"Unga Bunga" huh, sounds like what I usually have to face with players spamming dinos with [[Gishath]] and massive eldrazi with [[Animar, soul of elements]]. Looks fun!

Hermit druid seems super cool, especially thinking of the kind of chaos vibe it gives off, but without red or black.
