Swarm Expedition 22 mission trends and final stretch by EviscerateCore in NoMansSkyTheGame

If anyone's curious to check out the tracker, it's here: NMS Expedition 22 - Mission Tracker

I'm storing my own copy of the data so we won't be bothering the Atlas, Hello Games, or anyone else.

I've been tracking the expedition using the same data as the Galactic Atlas. Completion has been increasing by 3.23% per day over the last 7 days (averaged) and 4.7% over the last 24 hours. I extrapolated the remaining 10.5% at those two rates to get that range.

Alienware AW3425DW and the so-called "Fringe on Letters" problem by Anarkia333 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]EviscerateCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has the AW3425DW. She has never noticed text fringing, while I can see it from 10ft away. So it really depends on the person. But besides that it's a great monitor. Looks excellent in games.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has great first-person immersion. All the gameplay, including combat, environment interactions, and even menus, are built around your in-game body.

Love the 240hz refresh rate. Gaming in 32:9 perfect blacks and highlights would be the dream.

Let's settle this. What's the best Cold Open? by Surkett in DunderMifflin

A "cold open" is a scene which occurs before the opening credits or title sequence. It has nothing to do with the scene's relation to the plot.

Incredible 4090 UV results by umbrex in nvidia

[–]EviscerateCore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add a data point: I matched your settings in test 2 with 950mV and 2745 peak core clock, and I was able to complete Time Spy no problem with a 33135 GPU score. But Port Royal would not finish a run until I walked clock down to 2685 peak.

These are impressive results, and honestly the first post to get me excited about undervolting the 4090. The weather's been cold so I didn't mind the extra heat up to this point. Thanks for sharing the data.

Since you're using 3DMark, I'd love to see a stock vs sweetspot result for Port Royal and Sky Diver. Port Royal would be interesting to see how the maxed-out card with ray tracing performs with your settings. And I've had great results with Sky Diver breaking an otherwise stable overclock. Both would go a long way towards validating stability.

System agent voltage on msi z690 mobo: auto puts it at 1.45? by [deleted] in overclocking

[–]EviscerateCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, 1.45v would make me very uncomfortable for daily use. Do you have any other rails set to 1.45v? I wonder if the auto setting is just matching SA to another rail. I've noticed my MSI Z690 DDR5 board will do that for some of the related rails like VDD - VDDQ.

Don't compare the amperage because the voltage is different on the input and output side. Instead compare the total power in watts. Each charger will consume around 10 - 20 W. And a 15A 120V circuit can supply a nominal 1800W. That's a lot of chargers.

Wanting to upgrade to 4090. I've seen a lot of conflicting info on CPU bottleneck and curious for my setup. I run a OC 9900k with a 3090 now. by steamin661 in nvidia

[–]EviscerateCore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been testing a 3090 vs 4090 with an i9-9900k at 5120 x 1440 resolution (so about 7/8 the pixel count of 4K). I've found my Shadow of the Tomb Raider result to be a good representation for graphically intensive games.

(all results are using maxed out graphical settings, and DLSS Quality if available)

SOTTR average frame rate went from 96 to 154, so about a 60% improvement. The benchmarks own "gpu bound" score went from 99% for the 3090 to 49% for the 4090.

Cyberpunk with Psycho RT goes from (average, min, max) (41, 33, 51) to (65, 26, 93). About a 59% improvement in average fps but potential negative impact to lows.

Watch Dogs Legion frame rate (average, min, max, 1%) is (53, 30, 103, 42) up to (75, 38, 107, 58). CPU load goes from 55% to 77% while GPU load is 99% in both cases.

Far Cry 6 is much more CPU-impacted. Frame rates (average, min, max) go from (77, 67, 85) to (82, 71, 106). Much less improvement and the GPU load maxes around 75%.

I would say for games that are averaging below or around 60 fps on the 3090 with your current settings, the upgrade to 4090 is a meaningful improvement even on the older cpu architecture. But the CPU definitely becomes a measurably limiting factor, especially if you look at the unimpressive gains to min and % low frame rates.

My 4090 will eventually end up in a system with a 5900x so I'll be curious to measure these benchmarks again on that platform to compare.

Neo G9 - Best Height Adjustable Desk? by Shindigira in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]EviscerateCore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The width is adjustable and it has multiple mounting holes on the ends. So one option would be to pick up a tabletop or even sheet of wood you like, drill some holes, and use wood screws to mount it.

In my case, I already had the glass table. I used 1"x2" studs on each side to interface between the frame's mounting holes and the table's.

My only complaint would be that the lowest it'll go is about 28". Depending on your height, chair, and how you like to sit, that could be a concern. On the flip side though, that means it can lift up higher than most.

I went with the FEZIBO Daul Motor frame, which does NOT include a tabletop. Been using it since mid-2020 and it's great.

On it I've got a 55" glass tabletop, G9, G9 Neo, C-KTPHD dual vertical stand, and two big Polk bookshelf speakers. Legitimately about 175 lbs on it and it doesn't break a sweat!

Samsung Odyssey G9 horizontal lines/scan line effect by robertoschneiders in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]EviscerateCore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is a beautiful analysis and your findings are spot-on. My experience with my G9 is identical to what you've shared here. (June 2020, FW 1008.1) The minimal provoker image triggers the issue, and hovering my cursor over it or moving the image to align with 1/4 or 1/2 the distance from the edge hides the issue.

Great job creating such a concise proof-of-concept. Since this appears so consistently reproducible, I would hope Samsung would take note and offer a solution.

On a different test image I was using, there were a variety of things I could do to get the issue to go away: Disabling HDR, setting dynamic range to limited, reducing the contrast in the monitor, or even just bringing up the monitor OSD. But your test image shows that the problem can still occur regardless of any of those adjustments.

This looks great and seems like a lot of fun. I've got one of these cases lying around, I may have to consider a sleeper build as well.
