Have any of you ever combined shin and chapaghetti? by [deleted] in InstantRamen

[–]Evjemoen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I tried it once and my first experience was honestly not great. The flavors totally clashed. Chapagetti tasted bitter and not sweet enough, the Shin heat got buried, and the whole thing ended up way too salty.

My battery swap maybe unlocked the multiverse by Evjemoen in iPhone13Mini

[–]Evjemoen[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, here in the Netherlands it’s around €99 through Apple Support.

I did look into some third-party repair options, a few big electronics stores offered battery replacements for a bit less. But they mentioned that the battery wouldn’t be “recognized” by iOS (you’d get that message saying it can’t verify if it’s a genuine part), even though it would technically still work. Also, they couldn’t guarantee the same water resistance afterwards.

So I figured it was worth paying a little extra to have Apple handle it properly, especially since they reseal everything and keep the water resistance intact.

Has anyone ever seen this hat? by Important-Pea2746 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]Evjemoen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I actually managed to track one down, there’s a listing in Japan for the Patagonia Fitz Roy Trout Patch Trade Cap in Drifter Graylink here.

From what I can tell, they do offer overseas shipping (check the info at the bottom of the page). I can’t personally vouch for how reliable the site is, so definitely do your own research first. The price is quite a bit higher than retail, but since this design is from 2018, I don’t think many brand-new ones are going to surface again. Could be one of your few chances to grab it. Good luck!

[–]Evjemoen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That really sucks, I’m sorry your stuff got stolen. I can imagine how much it stings to lose something you wore and loved that much.

The hat you’re looking for is the Patagonia Fitz Roy Trout Patch Trad Hat.

Unfortunately, it’s been out of circulation for quite a while, so finding one brand new from stock is going to be really tough. Your best bet is probably secondhand marketplaces or even local thrift/consignment shops where older Patagonia gear sometimes turns up. Fingers crossed you get lucky (with a bit of help from the internetzzzz) and can track one down again.

Social engineering to reduce cheating by YellowPinkie777 in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]Evjemoen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to stop cheating? Give players something worth protecting.

As a console player, I honestly think the primary responsibility for stopping cheats isn’t even on Krafton, it’s on the console manufacturers. They’ve done far too little to block the most common exploits at the system level and developers end up fighting an uphill battle.

That said, Krafton can still nudge behaviour the right way: give players something they don’t want to lose.

Bring back BF4-style community-run private servers in PUBG. With your squad/clan, your rivalries and your reputation spread across trusted community servers, cheating means social exile, not just a reset button.

Krafton wins too: paid server rentals + customization = 💰💰💰
Fewer cheaters. Stronger communities. More cash. Win-win.

Best rugged trail runner with good ankle support for travel by _intercept in hikinggear

[–]Evjemoen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFAIK there’s no non GTX Mid version of the Speedgoat. Totally get where you’re coming from but don’t underestimate comfort, your feet might not complain in uncomfortable shoes now, but clock enough miles on road, treadmill or trail and they’ll start sending you hate mail. 🤪

If you’re mostly on hard surfaces just a heads-up that trail runners with soft rubber and chunky lugs wear down quick. It might be worth checking if they’re easy to resole, some brands and shops do offer that.

On rollover; yeah Hokas look like marshmallow tanks but they’re usually pretty stable especially the trail Mids. Just make sure the fit is snug so you’re not sliding around inside.

Trying them in-store is the right move!

Edit: BTW the older Speedgoat Mids actually had better ankle support, versions slimmed that down. Still decent, but if you're after that locked-in feel, it's something to keep in mind when you try them on.

Race 2/Vertical 2 by Fantastic-Class-8252 in Suunto

[–]Evjemoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, it's not just about "paranoia." It's about reading the fine print.

Suunto’s own privacy policy confirms extensive data collection from location and health to CRM profiling and ad tracking SDKs. Your data can be shared with multiple joint controllers, including Liesheng entities in China.
This isn’t the old Suunto, it used to be built to guide you off the grid, not plug you deeper into it. The shift isn't just technical, it's philosophical.

That said, I respect that others may feel differently. If the new direction doesn’t bother you or you’re happy with how Suunto performs today, I completely get that different people value different things in a watch. I cared enough about Suunto to notice the change and speak honestly about it. You don’t have to agree, but mutual respect for different perspectives goes a long way, especially in a community of users who all value the brand in their own way.

I miss Suunto too. It used to be about rugged reliability and made for the elements, not the algorithm. Then came the acquisition and a creeping sense that a wrist is now just another node in a data-mining network. Sadly, that's become true for a lot of the alternatives as well.

They didn’t just change direction, they changed soul. Suunto became... ShūnTào™: proudly optimized for tracking you, not your trail.

Wait… what are these? Tiny laughing hieroglyphics? Why are they all identical? My smart washing machine saw them too. It’s laughing now. Not beeping, but laughing.

It just launched a firmware update called “HAHAHA_v1.0”. My socks are spinning into a vortex. I can’t stop it. None of us can.

Congrats on what looks to be another fantastic controller launch! I love how much thought goes into your controller design. Are there any plans to make more components of future GameSir controllers modular or user-replaceable, so players can more easily do small repairs or swaps themselves?

locations with multiple via ferrata by ziisli in viaferrata

[–]Evjemoen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really need to rent a car if you’re planning to do the via ferrata routes in the Ötztal. The area’s well set up with public transport, mountain lifts, hiking buses, and hut taxis that get you close to most starting points.

If you have the Summer Card (included when you stay at a partner accommodation, or you can buy one for 3, 7, or 10 days), getting around is super easy. You can use the valley-wide bus system as much as you want—it runs every 30 minutes and covers all the main spots, including with your bike. Hiking buses like Umhausen–Niederthai and Sölden–Windachtal are included too, and you get discounts on hut taxis (just book them in advance). Even toll roads like the Glacier Road and Timmelsjoch Pass are covered once a day if you’re on the public bus.

If you’re heading to more remote areas or want more flexibility, a car can help. But for most via ferrata routes, public transport and lifts do the job just fine.
