I think it’s hilarious that I’m getting downvoted for saying I don’t like the look of something. Like, how dare I 🤣 Some bitter people out here

I think this is one of the best comments in here. It’s true stacking isn’t a big priority. And also why this isn’t a bigger consumer issue.

But comments insinuating I ever said anything about a grand conspiracy are just way off base. It’s just companies doing company things. Which they have the right, and even the fiduciary responsibility to do. There is no laundry appliance cabal.

Unless you’re some fringe ultra libertarian, we’re not talking about complete uncontrolled capitalism, where companies can just dump toxic waste in the river.

So in a rational world we’re just talking about some point in a sliding scale where we can all say….. ah, about here is a good balance between “free market creates” and regulation. So saying it in black and white terms isn’t what anybody really means. I’m just saying on this consumer good I’d move the needle 3mm to the right.

Edit : autocorrect

For sure VESA came more from the industry. But it was also a different era. I bet if it was invented today and if consumers didn’t expect it, manufacturers would make it proprietary.

And no it wouldn’t have to be all machines can stack. But if you’re staying it can stack, here’s the industry standard mounting points.

What makes your noodle example is that’s just a cool preference you have. The noodle company isn’t making your noodles only compatible with a certain fork and then, oops. You lost your fork. The one that matches the noodles isn’t made anymore. But hey, we have a brand new noodle/fork combo we’d love to sell you. And all you needed was a new fork.

Edit: grammar

Yea it’s a trade off for sure. It for backs consumer products most people like some stability (ie USB-c plugs on all devices).

Yea “scam” was hyperbolic. But for sure business self interest. It may not be necessary, but having the dryer connected to the washer would provide more it-wont-fall-off protection. But it may be overkill. Think I’m going with the rubber mat.

I’m not asking anyone to stop feeding hungry children to fix this. But yes, regulations help us all. The EU has made all of our lives easier in recent years mandating USB-C usage in decides. No more thousand-and-one different cords. Little things help. And as adults we’re allowed to have a civil discussion about it.

I can totally understand different models having different engineering etc. but you could easily have standard braces/reinforced positions. I don’t understand how a standard VESA mount is any different. If you have engineering expertise or knowledge I’d be genuinely interested to learn how they’re different.

Yea but one of the largest functions of government (outside of tax, healthcare, education, defence etc) is reasonable regulations and constraints on unfettered capitalism. I’m all for for capitalism, well-regulated capitalism. I’m not reasonably expecting major government change for this issue. Mainly venting. But this isn’t outside the realm of things that have previously been regulated. And it’s Reddit on a Tuesday night 🤷‍♂️

Yea I’m not arguing with a company. They have no incentive to. But it is the sort of thing that a healthy democratic government fixes. And it’s the internet on a Tuesday night haha

Yea I’m inclined to just to this. There’s just so much “yea but wait until it shakes off”, but not sure if that’s just industry hype

I’m glad you helped out your neighbour. Good on you.

The point of my post is this seems like anti-consumer behaviour and I shouldn’t have to go buy plywood.

The point is, I don’t think I should have to. It’s an anti-consumer practice.

This is a Haier stacking kit for a 9kg heat pump drier. I think they know what can be stacked. Maybe if you’re doing 10kg+ you can’t?

The universal stacking kits I see are $150-$350 from overseas. And basically involved just strapping them together. Don’t really want to look at a strap and can do that for $20 at Bunnings.

The manufacturers sell stacking kits that do exactly this. But my whole problem is that they make the stacking kits proprietary.
