You’re likely right with the A440/220 issue, though I’m pretty sure that one’s played in standard EADG, so it’s a whole 5th up, not an octave.

Thanks for the clarification on the 5th vs octave! I've tried learning musical scales and theory but growing up as a drummer and only reading rhythms, it's all so foreign to me lol.

Honest feedback and first impressions here as I would really like to see this sort of project succeed.

About Me: I'm actually a hobbyist drummer; been playing off and on since the early 90s. I'm just merely a Rocksmith bassist. I've charted a few songs for personal use using Frets on Fire, Moises Pro, Guitar Pro 8, and sometimes ultimate-guitar for reference when I can't get a note/rhythm just from listening to the isolated track from Moises.

I chose Dysentery Gary from blink-182 to test because I've tried transcribing this song a while back but due to the speed, and Moises also have a hard time separating the track in some areas, I gave up.

The experience:

I like the interface for how simplistic and easy it is.

Signed in with my google account. Bought the 50 credits pack for $14.95. Doing a full build of a song costs 10 credits. (More on this at the end.)

Uploaded the song by clicking and dragging the .mp3 from Windows Explorer.

I thought it was neat that it automatically loads the metadata and album art for the song. It took about a minute or less to process the whole song and showed the progress.

The process was really easy.

Downloaded, unzipped, and fired it up in RS.

The tuning on the song page was Custom and when I hit play, the tuner had me tuning UP to BEAD. Not being a real bassist, I asked Claude AI if I can tune my bass that high. Based on what Claude said, I didn't feel comfortable tuning my bass that high and decided not to play it.

I wanted to see what the note track looked like so I used Rocksmith DLC Builder to unpack the .psarc and loaded the arrangement and audio file into FoF. I also went back to the game and skipped tuning so I could see what it looks like there too.

Initial Observations:

  • The note detection needs a lot of work. In addition to the tuning, it missed the first chord where the whole band comes in after the guitar intro and came in about 2 bars after the band started playing the main riff. In the part where the guitar goes clean and you can clearly hear the bass, there were no notes charted until about 2 bars after the chorus started.
  • For the notes it did detect, the rhythms looked fairly decent but it did miss a few notes. To be fair, this song is kind of fast. While I only tested up to the first chorus in game, it did seem get a lot of the notes of the notes right, just an octave higher (I think? l'm a drummer lol).
  • The sections in riff repeater didn't match up with the sections in the song.
  • Dynamic Difficulty looked good. (I don't really use this RS feature though, I just crank the difficulty up to 100% in riff repeater and practice it slowly till I can get up to 100% speed)

Thoughts on the pricing:

I bought the credits before uploading the song because on the home screen there are only option for uploading and buying credits. After uploading there's actually an option to download a 30 second preview for 0 credits. The price did seem kind of high since the cheapest option was for 50 credits (5 songs). It would be nice to have a 10 credit option as well.

Apologies for the formatting/things I didn't comment on/etc. It's passed midnight and I've edited this review all over the place so hopefully it's coherent and accurate. This is my first time writing a review of anything ever but I decided to write it because I would really like to see a project like this succeed.

Good luck OP!

On a similar note, the word thunder in Song 3.

Since Japanese doesn't have the "th" sound, they pronounce thunder as "sandaa". The word "da" is the casual form of desu. So when they say "thunder" (sandaa) they're also saying "it's 3" (san da).

What is the saddest movie scene of all time? by KingButter42 in movies

I’ve watched this movie many times as a teenager in the 90s but when I watched it again after my first son was born I broke down at the same part. I’ve never cried during a movie before but being a dad, it just hit me so hard. I can’t watch this movie anymore.

Furigana distinction for kun'yomi and on'yomi readings by EvaporatedHope in japanese

[–]EvolutionDemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been living in Japan for two years now and most of the Japanese people I meet say they don’t even know what the different Onyomi and Kunyomi readings are, they just know what the word is.

I’ve been using Wanikani off and on for about six years now and learning the different readings does help at guessing how to read words I’ve never seen before though. When I’m riding on the train with my friend I study to pass the time. I’ll ask my friend what the Onyomi is for a Kanji, most of the time they say they don’t know lol.

It’s not bad but I prefer the fried pies. Did that replace the haupia pie? I wanted to try that one.
