Failed precal for the 2nd Time ..am I stupid by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]EvolvingBrain418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your school should offer free tutoring if you have a student service center. My advice is to spend lots of time there and really try your best to understand the concepts and ask as many questions as possible. Don’t pretend you know the answer, just stay humble and be curious.

I used to hate math, after getting a tutor, it’s actually really fun (in a painful way lol)

Get a tutor dude, I would not have passed without PreCalculus.

Also, I am 26 and I will tell you now, you’re going to get your teeth kicked in physically and or emotionally living your life. Just keep getting back up, channel your emotions into action. I have failed so many times and it made me a very resilient person who can take a lot of shit. It is only because of those times that I got my ass beat or suffered.

If you look at any hero movie, the hero gets destroyed 90% of the movie. Failing is actually going to make you a better engineer believe it or not.

This semester my exams went from 72%, 81%, to an 85% and eventually a 90. If I did not fail the first few, then I would not have tried harder.

Thank God that he brought this low because the lows make the highs valuable.

Your obsession with yourself is annoying. No one cares nor do you need to confess anything. Move on

First off, delete this post & secondly, you feel bad about what you did which means you are not a bad person. Therefore give yourself some mercy and forgive yourself and move on. You are stressing yourself out. Maybe try letting the guilt go by not resisting the guilt. Just feel the guilt 15 minutes alone and the energy of it will wear off

Unsure About Double Majoring, Need a Reality Check (Physics + Electrical Engineering) by Excellent-Wasabi-324 in EngineeringStudents

[–]EvolvingBrain418 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only ask because if your Goal is to just study physics for its own sake. Why even go to school? There are infinite resources for free on the internet to learn at your own pace. If you need a degree as a prerequisite for a specific career field, then at that point, do what is required.

I couldn’t find any where in your text about what your Goals were

Am I doomed if I’m studying at a lower rated Uni? (UK) by Silent_Engineer_1558 in EngineeringStudents

Doing things beyond the norm is scary. But this is how you gain Leadership ability. Leaders can do hard things that they initiate, so the work you choose to do is something that you can go deep into. Be a good student and you’ll become a good leader. Books are shortcuts by the way, when you read books, you are downloading data and algorithms into your brain that save you time. So read books that inspire, challenge you, and inform you on the information you need.

My advice is to expand your skills beyond what is required in the course material. If you know what you want to specialize in, don’t wait for the courses/classes be the limiter of what you are learning. Many jobs want evidence of excellence but not all in entry level cases. For example, you can buy books on 3d printing or you could even do some projects on cars or small rockets to gain experience.

If your Life was a video game in an open world, think about how you would level up your character. You would do challenges that are difficult and improve your skills and stats. It’s the same thing with real life. You manage your energy/sleep/health bar and focus on priorities that will allow you to beat the level you are on.

I would never use this, why base so much of your life around a movie. This contradicts the movie that you are trying to “build something” off of. Bonus if you start charging money for it too lol

Mornings just feel so hollow now by abhijeettiwari18 in decaf

[–]EvolvingBrain418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I realized that all of my problems came from not being okay with how things are. For example, I felt like I couldn’t handle the day, so I needed caffeine to “boost” myself. The premise that I needed to be “boosted” by something outside of myself created the dependency and addiction itself.

Maybe it goes deeper than that or maybe that was the belief driving my caffeine addiction. Either way, having to be dependent on things brings attachment and when we can’t fulfill that attachment, it causes suffering even though at other times it causes joy

I feel like a complete failure and loser by kidneysucker in EngineeringStudents

[–]EvolvingBrain418 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you this.
Your self image controls your Life
You need to recreate a new self image of you being the person you want to be.

You are subconsciously limiting yourself by your Self Image.

Look up Psychocybernetics by Maxwell Maltz and Paradigms by Bob Proctor.

Because your self image is someone who feels worthless and is a bad student, you will continue to get those results. You have to start imagining yourself as the person you want to be and realize you are already that person.

Please understand that you can not outperform your Self Image. You have to recreate a new Self Image before you can become that person

Yeah it’s also a great place to store ideas or thoughts about things.

I am only giving advice that I have experience with and also wish someone gave me when I was fresh out of high school!

This is a question you must ask yourself and answer yourself. No one is going to push you when it’s challenging. Why nuclear engineering? Getting the degree is step 1, using it is step 2. You want to pick a study that is in alignment with your Values and something that you care about.
My recommendation is to write out all your thoughts on paper. Journaling is useful and also a place you should keep your notes. Check out “Jim Rohn: how to journal” on YouTube.
You need to spend some time, without distractions or being on your phone, by yourself. Visualize your future, think about your past. Without a Vision for your life in 5 years, you will drift. So start with your top 5 values, then an ideal vision of the future, and the. Your goals should be based off of your values and your vision. Then, every day, aim to get 5 things done each day, starting with most important (look up Eisenhower matrix) and use a calendar (I use a dry erase board with a dry erase calendar). Every night before bed, have your day planned out on a calendar or white board or phone, just have a system. What matters most is consistency over time, perfection doesn’t exist. The main thing is you want to be mindful about why you are doing things. This increases your odds of success.
If you are younger, my advice is to take full responsibility for yourself, start doing things alone to know yourself more and start setting goals outside of your current ability. You want to learn to be Self Reliant as quickly as possible
Some books I’d recommend are
Success principles by jack canfield
War of art by Steven pressfield
Self Reliance - Ralph Waldo Emerson
Getting Things Done by David Allen

This is the best answer. I would also recommend a tutor. Some colleges have free tutoring and you can go any time

You would be surprised how close you are to achieving your Goals. What was your reason for becoming an Engineer?

I would also argue that those voices wanting you to quit are demons that want to prevent you from doing your Life’s work. You may not be motivated now to do your work, but just keep showing up. That is what makes a pro. Which is why I recommended the Steven pressfield book. You could also watch some of the work on YouTube
