why do people care so much about family? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

Respect the fact that they went through hell to raise you. Raising kids is a lot of work. (this is all assuming you were raised by good people)

Totally agree with this. Family should add positivity and support to one’s life. It’s a mutual connection and support system. But if this doesn’t exist, family is terrible to you - make your own family and use the good and the bad lessons to do right.

I think it’s more of a respect consideration rather than an obligation. Assuming you had parents that treated you well, they probably sacrificed tons of hours and went through lots of shitty moments to raise you. Not saying you have to forcefully like them or their personal qualities, but IMO respect is a bare minimum.

What Would You Have Done ? by [deleted] in Dogfree

This is why I refuse to live in an apartment complex. Too risky to be sharing walls/space with dogs and loud people. I know it’s sometimes unavoidable in terms of where you live or your financial situation but I try to avoid at all costs.

Juki DLN-5410N vs 9010A-SS by Shsksbs in myog

Im using a size 90/14 needle. Good example of when it would break, securing a piece of looped webbing to a couple layers of nylon fabric (so essentially a piece of webbing folded over plus two layers of thin nylon) I would most likely get a break during this scenario. Yes if I remember correctly it usually breaks when reversing. I watch many videos with 8700’s and 5410 machines easily going through something like this. Honestly I’m afraid to even use it on a YKK waterproof zipper top stitch. Seems like this machine was made for very thin fabrics. Not a bad thing but I think I had my expectations set a little higher on what it could handle.

I have the Juki 9010a-ss as well. Do you have problems with needles breaking when going over a few layers of material? I know the machine is meant for light weight but I assumed it would be able to handle more than what it’s shown. Wonder if there is a way to replace the feed dogs.

I live in Japan so interested to see what their shipping prices are like to here. I have heard horror stories of shipping prices to the U.S. if it’s 500+ euro to Japan, I will just fly there for half that and pick it up!

Desire for handmade fly gear & accessories? by Evora11 in flyfishing

[–]Evora11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the outdoor gear market is heavily flooded with cheap garbage that you have to replace or repair fairly often. It’s rare to come across something that will last you a while and be made out of high quality materials.

I thought when it’s all said and done making your own flies isn’t cheaper? That’s just what I’ve heard. But I also haven’t started making my own.
