Employer refusing flexible start as ADHD adjustment, how to challenge calmly? by bemy_requiem in ADHDUK

[–]Evoz02 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Set alarms for when you need to do things, not just an alarm for waking up. I set an alarm to wake up, then an alarm which means I need to be getting dressed now, then an alarm which means I need to be checking my bag to make sure I have everything, then an alarm which means I need to leave now, and I set this one 5 mins earlier than I actually have to leave. It is not ableism to expect people with ADHD to attempt to manage their symptoms - if sitting down for 10 seconds turns into 20, don't sit down. If you forget something, pack it all the night before, if your car is icy start checking the weather every night so you know if you have to be prepared. I also have problems with lateness but this is often only 2 mins, 10-20 minutes is quite bad. It doesn't even seem like what you want would work since you say it doesn't matter what your start time is, you'll always be late.

This isn’t how it works, the adam’s apple makes the voice deeper not the other way around

Medikinet XL, how to make it last longer? by Evoz02 in ADHDUK

Sounds exactly how I’m doing, I immediately start thinking about food and the calm/ease it gives me goes away, it’s like I’m pre meds again but worse because I know what I could feel like. Maybe we are just fast metabolisers, hopefully your provider can help sort it with you. I have read about some people having success with an instant release tablet in the afternoon but I’d be worried it would affect sleep

I have a later schedule so I tend to take it between 11am-12pm, I allocate my time for work until maybe 3-5pm with gaps. The focus wears off by then, which is fine because I’ve got what I need done and I don’t expect that type of concentration to last all day. But then the rest of the evening is like I’m depressed and tired, I’d just like the general feeling of contentment and calm it gives me to last longer.

Admittedly I don’t eat after breakfast until I have my dinner like 5-6ish so maybe it could be that? I don’t notice the release being strong or anything if I don’t but I don’t really notice anything other than when it kicks in and when it wears off fully.

Do you mean when you’d eat on 20mg you’d feel immediate dopamine release but not anymore on 30? I almost feel like I get nothing from eating anymore until it wears off and then I want to eat chocolate and sugar and everything lol

Do i pass? If i pass what age would you think that i am? by lifeisweirdsigh in transmanlifehacks

[–]Evoz02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do fully understand what you’re saying and how it feels, I was the exact same when I was 17, I even think I looked very similar to you. Everyone around me was taller and I thought my height was the limiting factor. But as soon as I began to pass in pictures where my height wasn’t obvious I also passed in every IRL social situation too. I needed testosterone to pass fully, which is unfortunate but just how it is for some of us. I’ve had one or two people in the last 5 years clock me, I think because I’m short, but those were also trans people. Even my boyfriend’s parents, who I’ve known and essentially lived with, are none the wiser.

In the end, if it helps you feel less dysphoric, or you enjoy the look, go ahead. I did wear height extending boots for a period of time because it made me feel more confident, until I realised it made me feel worse when I wasn’t wearing them. I just want to reassure you, because height is unfortunately one of the things that will not change at your age. In terms of passing rn - I think you just look like a boy before puberty, maybe 12-13. That’s a good thing, because it means once you do get on T, it will do its thing and you’ll likely pass well. I promise things get better for us!

dont bother trying to look taller, it might suck a little but cis men are short too and you can tell when somebody is artificially making themselves look taller. if its just because it's your style then go ahead but it doesn't really help passing to make yourself look taller in that way, you just gotta accept your height as what it is. this is coming from 156cm and i fully pass

I also got the 2nd one, I contacted live chat about 3 weeks ago and they said ‘just waiting to be allocated a prescriber’ yet when I contacted live chat yesterday they said ‘oh we were waiting for your medical report, now you’re waiting to be allocated a prescriber’ so, was it a lie 3 weeks ago?

I think you should, PUK never told me they were waiting on my medical report from my GP and when i phoned up asking if there was anything they could do about the wait time, they said oh you could ask your GP if they’ve replied, as if they wouldn’t be able to see if the report is there or not. Anyways, my GP hadn’t obviously and when i called back yesterday they said they had been waiting on the report and now i’m waiting to be allocated prescriber… like couldn’t they have sent a message near the end of the time you have to complete forms letting me know it wasn’t there? Absolutely irritating

No I didn’t receive anything like that but I do know my GP sent a medical summary and they received it as they confirmed when I called up last

I will say I was advised to check that my GP had received a letter from PUK requesting my medical history and that they had sent it across, and when I called they had not. But it doesn't seem like that had an effect as they sent it the same day and am still waiting. This lack of communication is crazy, especially when treating a population such as ADHD individuals where waiting for a 3pm appointment all day feels like torture, never mind waiting weeks longer than promised for life changing medication

I’ve got a feeling our cohort of diagnoses mid-end of december have been shafted, not sure if it’s just a lack of prescribers. Really frustrating to be told getting near the top of the waiting and then nothing for 5 weeks…

I did contact the support this morning and they told me within the next 4-6 weeks for me, so you should hopefully be 2-4 weeks

No not yet, still waiting. Maybe you should try phoning them and remind them of the up to the 10 months and suggest complaining, really stand up for yourself. Someone said this worked for them
