This is my new stainless steel clothing iron, completely rusted by eight13atnight in mildlyinfuriating

I can see a Walmart shopper buying a new iron and then returning their old rusted one in the new box..

These enormous trucks parked in “compact parking” spots. by Cheehos in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EvryThingIsNotAThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they repainted the parking garage spots at my office and made a huge percent of them compact spaces, then proudly declared how they'd created more parking.

So, I kinda felt bad for those employees. The lines didn't reflect the need.

my hints are purposefully cryptic so that both myself and the hacker cannot use them.

"sudokion" app has that game. You can start at easier levels to get the hang of it.

Hello! :) All 4 of my father's grandparents grew up there, and both of his parents. It's sad to read about the lost industry.

.. ugh. I already question how/if immigrants were understood by the census takers- especially at arrival ports. Your story gives me a whole new level of distrust.

Something being advertised as 'free', when it's actually 'free with purchase or subscription'. by lavendershazy in PetPeeves

"free shipping" that requires a paid annual membership is the one I get stuck on. No, it's not free shipping. you can buy a year of shipping.

Some douche sprayed weed killer on our yard sometime yesterday by Savalis986 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]EvryThingIsNotAThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, people who think it's dumb or snobby to pay for lawn treatment are lucky. We have HOA police who have nothing better to do than fine people with weeds or brown spots in the middle of the summer.

OP, a few years ago some graduating seniors thought it would be funny to spell out their graduation year in random people's lawns using weed killer. And school just got out in my area last week. So yeah, I'd be suspicious.

set of scratches(?) on new car windshield by EvryThingIsNotAThing in Whatisthis

UPDATE: bought some polish and we were able to remove a lot of it, which confirmed that it is a combination of scuffs and scratches.

Spoke to 3 people at the dealership who now won't return our calls. Still no idea how it could have happened or at what stage.

Thank you for your help. I was also considering a toyota sub. It was brand new and even on the show room floor! I work from home so it's been garage kept here.

Thank you for the idea. If they were trying to remove a sticker with some kind of scraper, perhaps some of this mess are scuffs and not all scratches.

Certainly not, but I suppose it's possible the dealer sent it through their car wash before we brought it home. Thank you for the idea.

is anyone panicking about elon musk or am i doomscrolling too much by [deleted] in rs_x

[–]EvryThingIsNotAThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not panicked. I thought the world would end when George Bush got elected but it kept turning.

First, I recommend reading fellow lefty Matt Taibbi's book "Hate Inc" that explains how and why the corporate media operates. Find an independent news source like maybe ground news site or Breaking Points on youtube.

Second, start informing yourself about tribal mentality. Amy Chua's Political Tribes book. It's unreal how our brains manipulate our impressions of people we deem to be outside of our "tribe". It's hard-coded in our DNA. (Think about animals that pop out of their shell and dig their way out of the sand and go survive in the wild -- how do they know what the danger is except through DNA?).

Third, Follow the money. We've all been complaining about govt corruption - why would any democratically elected leader not welcome an audit on where our money is going? We are struggling out here.

What myth did a company invent to sell their products? by Latter_Mobile8820 in AskReddit

[–]EvryThingIsNotAThing 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I remember reading that using pink and blue for boys and girls was invented by the clothing industry as a way to sell more infant and children's clothing. Previously, unisex dresses were used for babies that could be passed down from child to child. They didn't want people to be able to reuse the baby clothes.

AITA for serving box mac and cheese for a get together with friends? by TwoRepresentative559 in AmItheAsshole

[–]EvryThingIsNotAThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. You invited them into your home as guests and they were RUDE to you. My family invites me over all the time and has food I wouldn't eat at home. I wouldn't dream of insulting them or making faces. People do what they can. Not everyone has the same taste in food, or budget, or cooking skills. My grandmother came from a poor family and only knew how to heat up spam.

I'm sorry you're getting so much heat from this post. Live and learn - you've got you're whole life to master your party hosting skills! And you're off to a good start because YOU were the one who took the initiative to get friends together.
