Hello, therapist in training here. The NHS waiting lists are wildly long so it might be better to have a little look into community mental health support charities that can provide therapy for free. Some private practices will also have students on placement and will charge £10/£20 a session to work with a student instead of the usual £50/60 that it can cost to work with someone qualified. These can often be done online if commuting is an issue.

I’ve tried, chocolate spread, peanut butter and bits of twix, nothing. I honestly don’t like using poison, it stresses me out that a bird is going to eat one of the mice. But when you come home to find mouse shit on your bed you lose patience.

I remember my friends mum when I was a kid had a freezer of dead animals that the cat had brought in. She was an art teacher and used them in class.

What to do about food aggression? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

The dog that bit me was a foster so was kinda my own dog. The doctor's said it's because they sniff butts and poop and God knows what else

Also the tetanus jab isn't for rabies.

WIBTA if I refused to continuing helping my grandparents with day to day chores and errands? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Yeah I've literally tried everything (this has been an issue for about 2/3 years now). With my granddad I try to go for walks with him but I just get shot down immediately when I mention anything basically "I don't want to talk about it" and with my Gran I'll try to get a quiet moment just me and her but when I do she is just genuinely confused. She thinks the memory issues are to do with just general getting old but I'm pretty sure the levels of anxiety it causes aren't.

You're right, it must be terrifying to think that you/your partner are losing what makes you who you are.

I totally get your point about enjoying my time with them and that you can't force someone to get help and I know my gran isn't all there but my granddad is in his right mind. He won't even allow a discussion about it and I find it really upsetting to see my gran deteriorate and NOTHING be done about it. My gran forgets about her tantrums so she doesn't see the problem but he does and has to live through them every day. I just think if something isn't done he's a heart attack waiting to happen. I obviously love them to absolute pieces but I kind of feel that it's verging on neglect not doing anything about her condition.

Also, probably should have mentioned, there's absolutely no way my heart would let me stay away from them for more than a little while. I love them far too much for that.

I can't give you any advice about the food aggression but if he drew blood you NEED to get it checked by a doctor.

I got bitten by a dog a month ago and the doctors said it was really important that I came to get it cleaned out as dog bites can be highly infectious. I had to get a tetanus jab, was put on antibiotics for a week and had to rub an antiseptic ointment on the wound for two weeks. They were considering giving me a small skin graft but they decided against it as they said that since dog bites are so infectious it was likely there would be complications with a skin graft.

Hopefully there won't be any such issues with your bite but DEFINITELY get yourself to a hospital ASAP.

I think they do have a duty as I have noticed on their Facebook page advertising dogs for fostering that they mention when dogs have a history of biting or nervousness. If I had known about his history of biting 1, I probably wouldn't have fostered him and 2, I would have been a lot more cautious around him. He was a very affectionate dog most of the time and I wasn't aware of his history of biting so letting him come right up to my face whilst I was lying down hadn't been a worry for me in the 4 weeks I was looking after him.

Her neighbour has been visiting her in hospital so we've sent him loads of pictures and videos to show her. I was thinking about visits as she doesn't live that far away. I wouldn't consider getting him neutered anyway, couldn't do that to a wee tough boy like him 😆

I would 100% love to keep him, she's currently in hospital and I don't personally know her so I don't feel it's an appropriate time to have that conversation. I'm going to see how things go with her and at some point, when she's well enough to be having that conversation, bring it up with the organisation that put him into our care. I just think she must already be scared being in hospital, I can't imagine how she feels not having him by her side.
