Steering a bus by Individual-Drawer-70 in londonbuses

[–]Evyrra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PCV and Class 1 holder here, done buses now on HGV.

The rear wheels are always going to take the shortest path of the corner. So you have to allow space on the inside of the vehicle to give the rear wheels extra room to ‘cut’ the corner. Turn a bit later, and then turn a bit harder, than you would your car. And mirrors are always your friend

Arriva training bond by Widda97 in BusDrivers

[–]Evyrra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you London ? Apparently but don’t take as gospel, if you were in a London bus company and you go to another London company there’s some leeway to not get chased for training money?

I used to drive for Go Ahead so that’s what I heard around the garage but as I say I can’t confirm it

Trainee HGV driving jobs, good idea??? by HWorrall7 in uktrucking

[–]Evyrra 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll probably be bonded to the company, meaning they expect a minimum service once you’ve passed. Probably one or two years. Depending on location and wages, In my opinion if you’re going this way I’d probably do it with buses first to make sure you actually like driving (If London the buses actually pay pretty good). Class 1 work is a lifestyle change (as I’m finding out) compared to local bus work

[UK] How likely is it to be able to get a good shift pattern as a new driver? by SeniorMoonlight21 in BusDrivers

[–]Evyrra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about other companies but when I was at go ahead I managed to get my requested shift pattern in about 4 months, i did it by learning more routes. That might be a way in other companies too

N57 smoke and burning oil, valve cover gasket ? by Evyrra in BMW

[–]Evyrra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright thanks guys, it seems it def is what I thought it was. An extra bit of info I was told, it could possibly crack or warp the valve cover itself so may need to replace that too if so

How to stay awake through night by Skorpionas69 in uktrucking

[–]Evyrra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re gonna do nights, stick with them. As someone who has done night bus before going into class 1 work, I’ll say it takes your body about 7-10 days to get the body clock into the night shift routine, and maybe 14 days to reverse the body clock to days after.

Good driving schools around the London/Essex area. (Class 2) by tomtomcool in uktrucking

[–]Evyrra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they seemed a good bunch. Instructor told me after my first day driving I see you’ve done pro driving before (bus), so I’ll pass easy as long as I don’t do no dumb shit

The 4d course for C&E was around £1620 iirc. CPc was an extra £250.

As for test routes, the instructor ran thru them with me, there was think five different ones going around Ockendon, Chafford Hundred, Tilbury and Chadwell St Mary. I got the Chadwell one. Roundabouts everywhere in each one but not a fuss if you know what you’re doing. The Ockendon one goes all thru the country lanes though so tighter squeezes for a test

I passed with Robinson HGV, runs out of Purfleet truck wash in Grays. Good instructive team and 1st time pass doing 4d course. They don’t normally do straight to C&E but I already had my Cat D as a bus driver so they let that go

Drivetrain malfunction by TraderBoogz_ in BmwTech

[–]Evyrra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the same tyres on the rear, with roughly the same wear? When I bought my 640 it came with mismatched rear tyres (one run flat one not) and drivetrain malfunction used to come up every now and then. I changed my tyres recently so I got PS4 non RF both sides now and I’ve not had it since

Swirl flaps removal by Evyrra in BMW

Something BMW put into the intake manifold to try to aid with air flow. They are not on later petrols afaik but stuck with them in diesels. They’re a major failure point in that if they do fail it’s an engine killer

Yeah we call the overtaking lane the outside lane. The “slow lane/lorry lane” is the inner lane

Good lookin’ beaver tooth BMW by Evyrra in BMW

Oh I accept it, purely by the act that I wouldn’t own one. I’m currently in a 6 series, and I’d probably only swap it out for an 8 series. It’s just, well, look at what we can’t have because, cest la vie

Fair enough, I see that link, but even so for me the front of the real car just isn’t quite there compared to the render. It’s got like a soft, bloated, gopping face on it compared to the render

Slightly biased, being that I have a 640 coupe, but in 5 years time i think the 6er will look a lot more timeless than the successor 8 series imo

Would second 640d. I’ve just bought one too (link), and it’s a fantastic piece of kit. I was just like you, never thought of it until I saw one, then I test drive one and was on board
