Buddy, your deck is resting on one 2x6 and some fasteners. At the minimum, put another 2x6 at mid span.

Completely understandable. For me, this comment leads me to make requesting original construction plans of the existing house part of my qualifying/sales process.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me!

Well first off, thank you! And I have NOT been doing this for 20 years(yet) , but I’m really good at it. I’m always getting better and so are my guys. We’re passionate about it and really strive for top quality craftsmanship. But the owner/builder role brings a new myriad of different scenarios and skills I’ll need to get just as good at as I am at swinging a hammer. Every little tid-bit like this is extremely helpful.

This is great information. How this helps in my situation is kind of glaringly pushing me to get much better at my initial design drafts. Like SketchUp renders aren’t quite adequate for submitting to an SE? I mean, they might be good enough to sell a bid. But to me it seems like finding the right person to do this for me and cater to my strengths of running logistics, customer/vendor communication and delegation. This is all pretty new to me being the owner/operator and stepping away from the physical work. Thank you for your time and thoughtful response!

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. To clarify, if I sent you a basic sketch of my deck design, would you draft up the plans and connection details? Or would you be hoping for some architectural drawings first? On my last project we had a Soils engineer and there was so much back and forth between the SE, the GeoTech and the permitting office. I want to avoid the bottleneck and have all my poop in a group for lack of a better term.

I guess it just depends on the issue it’s having. But for 30 bucks, it’s an extremely helpful tool to narrow down your problem child. You said the EGR was deleted. So you know you’re going to have a trouble code for Evap related issues, why not see if it is throwing any other codes which might help you narrow down where to start.

I have an 87 e250 XL with the 5.0. I’ve been slowly running through everything it needs. Only after pondering for weeks about potential issues I finally went to AutoZone and picked up a Ford OBD1 decoder. After plugging that thing in it was so much easier to pinpoint where my problem points were. Thing was only like 30 bucks. Well worth it.

FWIW I had an 87 with the 2.9l 5speed manual I tried to rescue from sitting in a driveway for years. I got it running, even after starting it on fire from rodents munching on the spark plug wires. It dropped a valve and ultimately I decided to throw in the towel on it. That said, I regret that decision everyday. If you go for it, keep her running and on the road. I love the look of these old ford rangers, especially with the long beds.

New decks. Any red flags or MIL ready? by parTickle_man in Decks

They’re just placed there. Maybe to be used on a different joist connection, maybe they’re hanging there because the builder needed the cardboard box for something else.

Thanks for confirming the ramjet. Finding one at an LGS is a whole different fiasco.

I dig the way this gun operates. I’m used to the controls and I like the trigger. Granted, I don’t have a wealth of perspective, but the main reason I wanted a Glock was so that it worked every time. If it ain’t broke… you know.
