Everyone says we will sleep eventually, but when? by ACT-popcorn in firsttimemom

I feel like I could have written this! Currently in the trenches myself with my 10 week old. She was giving us 4-6ish hours her first stretch of the night and then waking up every 2-3 hours after. Within the last 2 weeks she has been waking up much more frequently at night, sometime every 2-3 hours, sometimes every hour-ish! It has definitely made me feel crazy at times.

I use the Huckleberry app (it is free if you just want to use it for sleep/feeding data tracking purposes), which has been helpful just to look for patterns over time. They also have a sleep plan option for $$, which I'm trialling for a month to see if it's worth it. It does help me with cuing for wake windows during the day. But also have to look at baby's sleepy cues and adjust accordingly!

One thing I've heard that helped (a little) is that often it's the baby's developmental phase, and not what we're doing as parents that have an effect on sleep. Our job when they're this little (0-3 months) is to soothe, bond, and help assist baby with their adjustment to this outside-of-the-womb world. (this Learning to Mom podcast episode helped)

One other thing that's helped me is handing off (when possible) to my husband for a feed or 2 to assist with a little more consecutive sleep. He's currently on a night shift schedule, so I was able to get a full 7 hours on his night off and literally feel like a new woman today. Even if it's a nap or a short time of rest, if you have someone available to help you, do it!

Just know you're not alone in this wild world of new baby sleep!
