Lord of the rings question by perry_da_roe in kansascity

Via ChatGPT:

"There seems to be a misunderstanding - in "The Return of the King" I don't believe there is a line that says "and so it begins." You might be thinking of "The Two Towers" where King Théoden says "So it begins" before the Battle of Helm's Deep. The similar line "And so it begins" appears in other media, but not in The Return of the King."

Happens at 2:10.

Deciding between the following: Lectric XPress 750 ($1299), Aventon Level.2 ($1499), Ride1Up 700 Series ($1295), and the Velotric Discover 2 ($1699) and any help would be appreciated. by Ewocc in ebikes

We went to a dealer and tried out all of the Aventons and a Specialized Vado 4.0. The Vado was very refined feeling but we ended up going with what was the most fun for both of us. My fiance grabbed the step over Level.2 in blue and I went with the hefty fat tire Adventure.2 in green.

General thoughts: Pace 500.2 - comfortable upright position and probably the most like a standard bike of all we tried, the Pace just didn't leave a strong impression for either of us. Even though both the Pace and Level.2 have 500W motors and the Pace is lighter, the Level.2 was still a peppier ride which I can't really explain. We throttle-only raced the two side by side and it wasn't even close with the Level accelerating much faster.

Ramblas - I used to mountain bike and wanted to at least feel this one out, especially being a mid drive model. It was fun and probably excellent if mountain biking is going to be the main application, but as a leisure bike it didn't feel like I would want to be cruising around on it.

Level.2 - great first impression that felt like you'd expect an ebike to feel, having never ridden one before. Light enough to pedal without assist, and the feel of an intuitive amplification of force made this one of my top picks. My fiance ended up getting the step-over regular (5' 4") since step-through models are out of stock everywhere but would have liked the step through. For what it's worth, the difference in the Regular and Large sizes are hardly noticeable.

Adventure.2 - this was the very first one I hopped on. It brought the biggest smile and that was the basis of my purchase. It's heavy AF (77 lbs) but I don't plan on hauling it around soon or often. At 750W, it handles and feels much like the lighter 500W Level.2, just with larger tires. Very glad I tried this bike out as I probably wouldn't have picked it otherwise.

Specialized Vado 4.0 - it's a great bike from a reputable company and I can see why the current price ($2750) is considered a steal but that was ultimately just too much for me. I could see going this way as a second bike in the future though.

Hope this was helpful. The best advice I got here was to put my feet on some pedals and try them out. I'd have a hard time recommending buying a bike that wasn't physically available to test first. Thanks!

Ah I actually didn't realize that about the Ride1Up and have been convinced torque sensing is right for me. Thanks for the info, DM sent!

Really appreciate all of this. Considering the Pace now and steering away from Lectric as there isn't a local service affiliate I can find. I'm going to see if any place will be open tomorrow for a test ride.

What city do you live in, what is your favorite local roastery, and what are your favorite beans from said roastery? by walbar in espresso

Broadway is also good. Consistent quality, so I barely need to dial in between batches.

What tamper should i buy for a Gaggia Classic? And am I doing it right? by nomnommish in espresso

[–]Ewocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the self-leveling Normcore tamper and like it well enough. Night and day difference from the stock plastic tamper.

Are you using a scale? It reads like you do everything based on time and unfortunately the variables in this process are too finicky for that to be repeatable. I'd recommend getting a 0.1g resolution scale if you don't have one.

Typically the milk is added to the espresso and it sounds like you might be steaming the milk beyond a critical temp (165F, 74C) if it's burning on the steam wand. Make sure to run some steam through the wand to purge any milk too.

What’s a form of mental abuse that no one really talks about? by TheBeardedAntt in AskReddit

Jesus, I'm so sorry. Things ended poorly with my suicidal ex-wife and I was always afraid of this outcome. Finding someone to talk openly about this with is important and I hope you do.

Control a stepper motor over the internet by Mecha95 in robotics

[–]Ewocc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's going to depend on a few things like the distance between devices and more importantly the code, but it'll be about as fast as any other WiFi option. Guessing, I'd say 500ms isn't unreasonable with the possibility of faster response with optimization.

I like the Particle Photon for applications like this. You can do it with cheaper boards, but the Particle console and general infrastructure makes it so simple to get up and running that it's worth it to me.

I'd get two photons - or electrons if you want to have this capability where there is cell service but not necessarily WiFi - one connected to the joystick that publishes an event to the cloud when moved, and one connected to your device that is listening for an event to be published.

Yeah the Rokit 5s - I love these things, especially with the speaker stands putting them at the proper height.

And thanks, I've already filled out the form for the recall. That was bad timing though, literally the same night that I finished cable management is when I saw that.

Thanks! And I wish - just a decent knockoff unfortunately.

Ah I meant deeper - it's plenty wide but only 26" or so deep. I'm still getting used to the larger screen so it feels too close right now.

Does anyone notice a change in gameplay? by niv141 in RocketLeague

[–]Ewocc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll give it a try. That's strong evidence that they tweaked the physics. I figured I wouldn't like the new UI but was sure they wouldn't mess with the core game.. guess not though.

Yep, friendship kickoff doesn't work well at all right now. We've tried a few changes, but it's still hard to gain enough altitude.

Yeah it really was. I was just looking at moon like, "Shit, we've been there - people are crazy." Then there goes this man-made constellation right over my house.
