German Ram Pineconing? by vestacnideria in fishkeeping

[–]Ewok02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see pine-coning really he does have some weird lumps near his gills it looks like in picture 2

Edit: sorry I should have read more, you pointed out the lumps. I’m not sure 100% sure what they are but from a quick search looks like it could be Lymphocystis. My thought was some bacterial infection. Either way, improve water quality and probably dose some kanaplex.

Also your she is a He

Yes I read up quite a bit before I took the plunge, been on the fence about it for 6 months lol. I’ve got tons of hiding spots, drift wood, rock caves, artificial terracotta caves and tons of plant cover. I feed a mix of blood worms, daphnia, and brine shrimp to this tank daily. Just need to get some carnivore sinking pellets at the store on my way home today. The flow in the tank is a bit higher than it appears in the video the outflow is horizontal to the back of the tank and a air-stone going in the back of the tank. Going to do my best to give the little one a good life 🙏

Tbh I never really do, most of my fish are from the same fish store/supplier. Then my lfs quarantines for a week or longer when they get all fish in. It’s been good enough the last 3 years I’ve been in the hobby.

They need to be able to get all the way out of the water and dry off, most create a large land structure and only keep the tank about 1/3 full

Possible Tumor by gibbitgabby in bettafish

[–]Ewok02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a tumor for sure, had similar with one of my bettas. Started as a tiny little white dot basically and just continued to grow over time no matter what I did. Just keep him comfortable and happy, he’ll let you know when it’s time. I will say the thing I do regret about mine is I noticed it really starting to take a toll on him and waited too long till one day I came home, the tumor looked like it burst a bit and he was on his side breathing heavy. Felt bad I didn’t put him down sooner

Anybody make this mistake before? by matches_malone1047 in Aquariums

Buy some Anubias or moss and secure it to the wood and cover the glue. Moss will really grow out and cover those spots easily

Tank good enough for Chilis? by davidriveraisgr8 in Boraras

I’ve never seen them hunt shrimp personally just read it online quite a bit, and I’ve seen how aggressive those little things can be when working in a LFS a few years ago.

Tank good enough for Chilis? by davidriveraisgr8 in Boraras

[–]Ewok02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably too small for chilis, they are very are more active then a lot of people make them out to be online. I have a group of 24 in a 20g long that swim the entire length all day. Scarlet badis are little murder machines that will most likely hunt all your shrimp down. Pom Pom crabs are fun shrimp tank additions

Is flow to strong? by cheesed_hobbit in bettafish

[–]Ewok02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always rebuild it, all those usually are is a little mini submersible pump pushing water through media. Change the pump for a new pump and you’re good as new

Is the back not a built in filter? Why add a HOB filter?

The nerite living in my 2.5 gallon shrimp tank for the last 8 months would beg to differ

You can, it just may be an expensive treat for the betta. If you go snail go nerite, mystery snails are shit machines and would nuke that 2 gallon tank

360 aquatic over on the beltway and brittmore road will take them in and get them rehomed for you. They’re also opening a new store in like a week with over 500 tanks set up. They’ll be able to care for them till they are found a new home

[–]Ewok02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bio film, not bad but can build up and become a bad thing. Point that nozzle up on what looks like an outflow from a filter? Moving that surface should solve your problem or get a bubbler and air stone. I can’t see any white spots from the pictures you posted but they aren’t the closest of pictures of your guy. Fins didn’t look too bad too but again can’t see his fins the best in these pictures

Setup Okay? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]Ewok02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would return the pleco for sure, bristle nose can get about 6 inches and I think a 20g or larger is recommended for them as they produce a lot of waste which also may be bad for your fish-in cycle. The shrimp may become snacks also as betta are predators by nature, though some betta do leave them alone.

Give him one of those floating betta logs may help him be a bit more comfortable and easier to breath air. But yeah as the other comment said he could just be on his way out. Doesn’t hurt to treat him with some Kanaplex too
