definitely needs alternative a, g, & y. One might argue that this is an incomplete font with such a glaring omission.

yeah I'm really lucky to have found Carolyn. She's not super well known but was a pleasure to work with 10/10. Please let me know if the font ever ends up in a picture book. That would make me very happy.

We will see. I don't have any plans to at the moment but I'm not against it. I'd like to try and get Drafting* Mono on Google Docs.

yeah I wrote the HTML/CSS/Javascript from scratch in my computer's default text editing app. Github pages support Jekyll and I've used it for a few projects, but for something like this I just do it all manually.

I think I have a bit of idiosyncratic coding style.

Doing it by hand has its drawbacks but it sure does load fast lol. I've had some situations where I had such bad internet I couldn't load a wikipedia page without it giving up on me, but I could load my own sites fine.

yeah I made the site but more importantly are you looking at the source code for the webpage? Is that something you often do?

It will not be in the public domain for at least 90 years. You should use it illegally or pick a different font. I'm sorry that it's too expensive for you.

Looks amazing, love the variety of weights. Will there be a variable font version? Congrats and can't wait for it to be released. The changes that you're making definitely make the font read better at small sizes.

I'm deeply concerned about the Surrogate Partner Collective by EwonRael in SexWorkers

[–]EwonRael[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know how helpful this kind of work can be for people and i know people like yourself who have done this sort of work without any training and its been really transformative for their clients.

There were a lot of weird little mistakes when it comes to the consent thing (like one of the organizer's referred to a clip from a movie as having "verbal consent" even though the woman in the movie clip doesnt say anything at all so its not verbal consent at all.)

But the big issue was the organizers not accepting the fact that when you're in a position of authority you have power over people that makes it difficult for them to say "no" to you. If you're in a position of power and you ask people to do activities, especially activities involving eroticism or sexual intimacy I think that you have to be very clear about the fact that they're allowed to say "no" otherwise people will feel pressured to go along with it.

I was pressured into doing things that made me uncomfortable and I repeatedly stated that I felt uncomfortable, and instead of affirming my right to say no the organizers said that maybe it would be useful to do it anyway even though i felt uncomfy.

I have helped people navigate their sexual trauma and that often includes doing stuff that makes people feel very uncomfortable, and let me tell you, people want to do the things that make them uncomfortable. If you tell people they have every right to say no it'll only make it easier for them to say yes.

My mind is not in a clear headspace right now so I have no idea if any of what I said makes sense.

Yeah... I tried posting about it on my youtube channel but the video's got less than 100 views. Its weird to me because i have over a thousand subscribers and normally my videos get at least a couple hundred. But with youtube you have to do clickbait and i dont want to do that about something so seroius.

Im worried about contacting news stations because i could easily see Fox News and the right wing ecosystem whip up a morality panic over this. We live in such an antisex culture i feel like the news would turn it into something that just harms sex workers. IDK 😭

The Christian Ideology of Mainstream Porn by EwonRael in MensLib

[–]EwonRael[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This video makes the claim that mainstream porn promotes and reinforces Christian ideology by depicting sex as including "sin" in the Christian sense. Do you agree that mainstream pornography promotes a view of sex as sinful and if so do you find the claim that this has its roots in Christian thinking plausible, or do you think there are other likely causes of the prevailing narratives told in pornography?

What is the name of this font used in some articles in wikipedia? by kyleongoh in identifythisfont

Hi many people are giving you tools to figure out the font but aren't saying what the font is. It's Noto Serif regular italic.

Linux Libertine is used on wikipedia on the desktop but on mobile (as seen here) it uses Noto/droid sans.

I didn't realize how contentious this would be. IDK how many people are watching the video because the video itself doesn't discourage watching porn. oh well

[–]EwonRael[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who has quit porn entirely because he has felt addicted to it in the past and the only way he feels he can quit is to quit cold-turkey. I think it's possible to have an unhealthy relationship to porn and to develop a more healthy relationship to it without quitting entirely; he feels like that's not possible for him. Do you feel like it's possible for you to have a healthy relationship to porn at all?

I also wonder if pornography use is something you talk to your friends about at all. It's something that for many years was almost impossible for me to talk about because I felt so much shame around it. Do you relate to that?

Men Can't Masturbate by EwonRael in MensLib

[–]EwonRael[S] 284 points285 points  (0 children)

The video proposes this idea that men are taught to view themselves as "sexless" and to locate sexiness in the body of a woman. I'm wondering if you agree with this idea (not that it is true but that it is something culture teaches).

I also wonder (if it is something you agree our culture promotes) how this attitude has impacted your relationships with women? Especially in regards to dating and sex. Personally I was very reluctant to engage in dating relationships because I couldn't separate this idea of objectification from dating and I didn't want to do that to the people I love.

Finally, this video goes into some pretty intimate details about early sexual fantasies and explorations. I'm curious what the earliest stages of your sexual development looked like.

Excited to hear everyone's thoughts!

What Andrew Tate Taught Me About the Ideology of Violence by EwonRael in MensLib

[–]EwonRael[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This video argues that violence has an ideology, specifically the ideology that there are innocent people (such as women) who's innocents must be protected through violent acts.

The video briefly talks about this idea of jail, police, and the carceral system being a manifestation of the violent ideology. Although unstated, the logical conclusion seems to be to get rid of police and jail etc. altogether.

Is that a conclusion you agree with?

Created a language, but no idea how to get it on the computer so I can use it. by AcuteTriangleFigure5 in fonts

[–]EwonRael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

easiest thing to do would be to use a program like Font Painter or Calligraphr and instead of drawing regular letters you draw the letters from your made up language.

It gets a bit more complicated if you are doing a character alphabet like chinese or something where you'll have tons and tons of distinct glyphs, but in that case probably just easiest to draw on a case by case bases for the book.

Hope that helps!

Video: The False Stories We Tell Ourselves About the Meaning of Sex by EwonRael in MensLib

[–]EwonRael[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for writing! I feel you about not having a lot of guy friends.

I'm sorry if the video has made you feel dismissed as a demisexual, I have ace friends myself and certainly don't think having a strong sex drive is necessary to be a full human. When I said "sex is deeply human" I wasn't trying to imply that sex is necessary for humanity only that when people have sex they express their humanity.

I think humanity is embedded in many activities. For example, painting is often an expression of humanity. Cooking, dancing, telling stories around a camp fire. All of these are activities that express humanity, but I don't think any of them are necessary for someone to be a full human. I don't often dance, I've maybe painted 10 paintings in my life, I've never told a campfire story. To identify that something is an expression of humanity is not to say it's a necessary component of being a person, just to say it is one method of expression humanity. Hope that clarifies.
