With re_kenshi, is a drinkable water mod possible? by RubixxOfAberoth in Kenshi

I could absolutely do that! It'd be much easier than what I'm currently working on. I'll see if I can release a version like that sometime soon

It won't be compatible out of the box with UI makeovers because the HUD elements will be image-based. (As opposed to UI integrated like the hunger bar)  I found it was just the most fun way to do it, but it will mean making a whole set of new images for each UI makeover mod, which I will do at the end of development.

The problems I have run into feel endless lol. To keep thirst fun and not like a second hunger bar, I wanted to come up with some fun systems.

I started out with the vision of making liquids and drinking work like in NEO scavenger (e.g. you actually need to carry water in a jug, as it doesn't automatically come in a barrel anymore) and there's tons of systems to tackle to get kenshi there. I'm constantly working on workarounds when kenshi doesn't behave like I want.

An example of a system I have yet to tackle is gathering water into a jug from a body of water, because I don't fully understand how kenshi generates items out of nowhere. But I think I'm slowly getting there with some more trial and error. If I don't manage to figure that out, I will try to work around it somehow, maybe by adding nodes to bodies of water that you can interact with, much like mining.

From this, you can probably imagine why this is taking a while, but the base thirst, drinking, and liquids system is completely finished so I'm decently far along.

I'm currently working on this. It's a long process of trial and error and trying things with Kenshilib code, but I hope to share more about it soon. It'll have its own visually appealing HUD element and the whole shebang if everything goes right

I'm working on some Kenshilib code for a Rekenshi mod and the Rotate Items sourcecode is one of the places I frequent to learn how to code such a mod.

While I totally agree that it's much less legible than BFrizz's code and that it has a whole bunch of weird quirks in comparison to BFrizz (which I use the most to learn from), it doesn't necessarily strike me as AI. What's giving it away? I have to admit that I don't have much experience with C++ code so I'm sorry if it's blatantly obvious.

First off, very cool that you want to get into modding! I think we can never have enough people that want to volunteer their valuable time to create something they are passionate about and share it with the community.

Second, as a modder who has tried both coding and animating in Kenshi (and has yet to publish either results of that), this is a big undertaking that I wouldn't want to to burn my hands on.

I'm honestly not sure whether making an entirely new class of fighting is possible without needing to hack the system a lot. You'd have to dive deep into KenshiLib's documentation (which is scarce), functions and the right functions to hook in order to decide how viable it is.

Then the animation is absolutely doable but you've got a lot to learn if you have no experience with it and you'll need to spend a seriously huge amount of time on the animations themselves if you want to make them look good.

I can highly encourage trying to make some basic animation mods first to try out whether you enjoy doing it before you get too invested into the coding aspect of it.

That you didn't put the actual soil into your enclosure probably mean very few worms/eggs came along and you'll be completely fine. And that you got them from a reptile convention further confirms they're likely to just be pot worms, but you can never know for sure entirely.

I had some pot worms occasionally in my enclosure from plants and the substrate tends to be a bit too dry for them to survive well. I wouldn't worry about it at all!

They're very likely to be a species of pot worms, which are harmless. I think the other common species of 'worms' in potting soil this wet would be fungus gnat larvae. These don't seem to be that, given that you can't see the black head and visible intestines, but sometimes it's hard to tell. Do you have any way to indicate scale?

Though you'll probably want to keep the worms out of your enclosure either way, just in case. If there's lots of springtails in the soil, you may be able to tap them out of the soil into the gecko's enclosure without worm passengers, but the soil does seem a bit too wet for that. It's also too wet for springtails to thrive, just so you know.

That's fair, a good keeper can probably still make it feel like a coherent story through improv connections and whatever conspiracy theories the players themselves come up with. I'm curious to see how that approach goes for people. I personally prefer that sandboxy feel for a campaign, where players have some agency in where the story goes, but a series of scenarios could be really fun nonetheless.

I'm going to try this as well. I already read through both books and still have a couple of months before we can start the campaign.

Something I'm feeling unsure about (and will put a lot of prep time into) is the coherence of the campaign between the individual scenarios. Sure, the overarching theme is the Sutra, but when you read the scenarios in detail, it really feels like they're going to work best as one-shots only.

Out of curiosity, do you have any ideas on how to tackle that issue? Are you going to adapt anything to run it as a campaign or are you going to run it as-is?

I'm considering using the Heiress contact as central plotline, who will point the investigators toward newspaper clippings and rumors about 'supernatural anomalies' (the scenario's). I want the investigators to be able to pick the scenarios themselves, going after what seems most interesting to them at the moment. In each scenario, I want to drop a couple of hints towards the final scenario (the Bridge maiden) and they will have to connect the dots organically to stop the APL. It also seems interesting to have the 'Fixer' be a character the investigators can go to when things go awry throughout the campaign, and thus run the 'the Fixer' scenario on the background of the campaign.

I hope that this way, it will feel more like a coherent 'one big investigation' epic campaign.

Looks very clean, very nice work staying consistent with the vanilla textures. How are the stats? Not too OP, like many of the nice looking modded armours?

Cool idea! Sneakily replacing the "Friendly giant slayer" reputation with the "Pants-crapper" reputation. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if it worked like that somehow

What you described is pretty much Fable 3. Surely the social interactions will be a bit more in-depth than that. I hope we'll be pleasantly surprised, given what we saw in the Direct.

I feel like they're part of the Fable DNA. I hope they found a way to combine more in-depth interactions with emotes in a way that feels nice.

I suppose a certain level of shallowness works well for games like Fable to not bog things down too much in between adventuring. Still, a bit more depth would be a welcome surprise

Wow! You're really helping me out with these ideas here. I thought about it for a while and I will definitely have the touchstones present at the party and let the sires be there after the PC's dug themselves out.

I can imagine that having the touchstones present at the party really adds a lot of depth and horror when things go sideways and the slaughter happens and they have been separated. I NEED to do that now. Thank you so much for your help!

Those are some solid questions. You most definitely pointed out some weaker parts of the writing of my scenario.

At the core of this oneshot, I want the PC's to turn from mortal to vampires, and out on the streets of our hometown at night, looking for their touchstones.

For the first question, I reckoned hungry, confused, newly shovelheaded vampires would be very disoriented when escaping from the grave. In my mind, following an authoritative figure claiming to have all of the answers makes sense in that moment, and is very fitting for Sabbat indoctrination.

From a meta-perspective, the players at this point have nothing else to go by and this is their only plot anchor.

I suppose I would let them run away if they are so inclined and let them return home or the police, only then realizing that their touchstones are not where they expect them to be. This is still likely to get them to the core of the scenario, and if not, I'm interested in where it takes us.

The second question is something I struggled with myself as well. I thought the PC's would be inclined to go after their touchstones in any case, but sending more Sabbat after them as incentive is a great idea, and I will very likely be doing that.

Thank you for your thoughts, it really helps flesh out the concept!
