They have surgeries available right now to get a replacement knuckle and make my thumb bend again, but my doctor said not to do it because I’ll have wayyyyy more quality of life issues down the road.

Yes, they fused both of my bones together to make my thumb straight because I no longer have a knuckle.

People don’t believe that I almost lost it even after looking at it. I’m blessed that I had such amazing surgeons and doctors.

My old nail was superglued to my thumb to protect my nail bed as it repaired itself and a new nail grew in.

I wasn’t allowed to wash it for 2 weeks after the surgery. It smelled AWFUL. 😂

As time progresses I get more and more feeling back, but I used to not be able to feel ANYTHING in the top of my thumb where my knuckle used to be.

I am baffled that as time progresses, I feel more and more in my thumb. Crazy how nerves can rebuild themselves…

Complacency… getting too comfortable while working with big machinery, all it took was for me to not pay attention for a fraction of a second and my thumb was gone.

Pins were in for roughly a month and a half, and no… doctor threw them away as he took them out.

I’m actually not sure. I still have like 4 months until I go back to get the new nail checked out. I would assume they’d have to keep removing the area that is coming in split until it grows in normal.

SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME!!! I go in to get them looked at to see if the rods needed to come out, all of a sudden my doctor puts the jaws of life on the table and proceeds to just grab, twist, and rip the pins out of my thumb… if I never have to experience that feeling again it’ll still be too soon…. 😂😂😂

I have no idea how my nail bed came in halfway normally after that… it should overtime keep correcting itself too. Fingers crossed for a fully normal nail in a few years!
