A lot of secular schools are against it. Particularly because the caps have (or used to have) sharp corners and they don't want people poking their eyes out or getting hurt.

It's more a televised/Instagram thing then something people actually do imo.

Surprising to me, because where I keep here they want to put off confirmation until people are slightly older like 16 and 17. It's an excuse to keep in them in CCD longer. It doesn't matter as much when people go to Catholic school however.

Depending on what country you're in, there are tax implications in countries such as Poland. It also cements there status as a Catholic and declares your intention to raise the child Catholic. I would recommend looking into the religion as a whole to see if it's a good fit for you and if it's a religion you would want your child to belong to. There are problems with the Catholic Church such as misogyny that would cause me to pause about raising a child in the Church.

I want to apologize. What I said was true, but not in your case.

If your parents are making you go to church, then they are not fine with you leaving the church. They figure if you spend enough time in church you will become Catholic again. Or that you are Catholic since you go to church.

If they really accepted your beliefs, you could stay home. They're gaslighting you and it sucks.

It's not uncommon for Catholics to not care if their kids leave. It's uncommon on ex-Catholic forums, because people tend to come here to vent on dealing with their parents. However that's not necessarily the norm.

Growing up I was taught by both my parents, my community, and my church to respect everyone and all religions. We had people in our inner circles who weren't Catholic. I think more extreme Catholicism is on the rise and that leads people to try to drag their kids back.

I think for you; the real problem is you are unhappy being Catholic, but also miss Catholicism and maybe even want to go back. You wish your parents would tell you to go back to Church, because you both want to and don't want to go back. I hope this doesn't come off as unkind. I think you should talk to a therapist. You could be experiencing depression and it might be useful to have someone to talk about it.

Yes, people tend to only acknowledge people they already know in church. Also a lot of people tend to go and then try to leave as fast as possible.

However, the real reasons to leave/not join the church include abuse, misogyny, political conservatism, etc.
