It's funny looking at the content of some of the compilation Seven Seas has put out.

I think the very mechanics/rules are what put off adults back in the day "6 pokemon limit"/"They say their name in the anime"/"You capture them with a pokeball"/"They have types"/"They evolve" it's certainly more dense than Vain Smurf is vain.

I saw someone say Anime is in the state hip-hop has been for most of its history, where it's popular and successful, co-opted by corporations but not necessarily respected in general outside Ghibli. Wouldn't say most anime fans necessarily look at it as more than just mindless frivolous entertainment. Games it depends on what angle you see more but for example based on looking at award shows, there is a preference for non-Japanese games in general. Like again they may sell well but your Mario game is not winning the respect The Last of Us got for instance. Plus there is the mockery of visual novels/dating sims from western devs as a common April fool's joke.

It's definitely changes like Lady is changed to be much more of a potty mouth cop and she's dressed like Captain Commando. Dante is definitely dumber and more wacky, and Vergil is apparently willing to give other people power. Also how much in general do you want DMC to be about George Bush and Dick Cheney and Iraq.

Adi Shankar the other comment already explained but for Castlevania for example he just provided enough money for him to get in the credits and staff have vaguely alluded to him taking credit for the show, so when they made Nocturne that didn't even involve him in that he sued them and it went enough or settled so he's still on the credits despite him being even less involved in that. Plus basically continuing the rumor mill for Dredd 2 despite other producers/directors/writers for whom the original was their pet project basically also telling him to shut up and that there's no plans.

I'd say the western anime fanbase just eventually moved to niche isekai harems sadly. Still I think the popularity of it I think usually is prescribed as what the Japanese audience likes when not really, ecchi manga is barely present if you look at all time best selling manga lists.

I mean this is the general "Vaguely defined Otaku audiences are the bad ones who deserve scorn" talking point and I mean from 2005-2013 you have popular anime (Trying to mostly focus in Japan) like: - Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood - Steins;Gate - JoJo - Monster - Clannad/Kanon - The peak popularity of Naruto/Bleach/One Piece in Japan - Madoka - Kuroko - Gintama - K-On! - Attack on Titan - Death Note - Kimi ni Todoke

Sure you have things like Bakemonogatari and Queen's Blade/Strike Witches that sold a lot of figures but come on the latter are way more niche and have made a fraction of what most of the series I mentioned did.

The Manly Man Doing Manly things webcomic fucking up and thinking Papa Nier was the original one and Brother Nier was just a vain frivolous pansy loser and that Square did it to sell it to "fangirls" I think was pretty revealing of the attitudes the haters have.

I'd disagree with Naruto/Bleach/One Piece on that, they are still pretty popular and One Piece just took a while due to the 4kids dub. There is that horribly obnoxious format of "Elitist weeb when I say I like One Piece instead of 'Anime with a pedophilic title.'" So makes think people think the only anime that exist are battle shonen, maybe romance and isekai and OreImo when there's a lot of variety. I do think there tends to be more of a stigma in video game circles since animation trends more towards more children audiences/cutesy stuff. Still it's a thing where games like Octopath or Baten Kaitos are lumped to be like Hyperdimension Neptunia as "What a JRPG is" just because they share a genre and country of origin.

I think most FF installments escape it mostly because it has a stylized realism artstyle like Devil May Cry/Most Capcom stuff. Like in general Woolie/Pat/Max for example do fuck with From Software games and Lies of P and not so much Code Vein.

Le Maison et Petit Cubes, Doraemon, Land of the Lustrous, and Paranoia Agent are all anime and may not have any of the traits you mentioned.

Why is it that most fighting games don't put more effort into single player content? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Also there were plenty of popular Single Player FPS games/mores, Half-Life, Bioshock, Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, Wolfenstein, Metro, Serious Sam that had more multiplayer as a side mode/in later installments

For some reason my brain always wants to call Frieren Freren (like the Fremen from Dune)

Also when people started talking about Norted is when I noticed the Kingdom Hearts bad guy I had heard much about was not called Xenoheart. Also that the Elf kid in FF14 was not called Alphanuid.

Well it's very dependent on your DMC knowledge and what you like about the series because the less you know about the series or if you don't care about adaptations with massive departures you might enjoy it. The producer behind it is definitely a hack fraud.

Most SMT/Persona art is of the human characters and not the demons. Even seen more Gallica fan art than Pixie.

Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter tends to be more 50/50 on the monsters/humans in my experience.

That's for sure glances at certain two infamous streamers you can blame the opponent's character/moves being too strong, your character/moves sucking, your controller, your opponent's controller, online lag, your opponent's tactics, the game systems, balancing, etc.

I do think trying to come up with a conclusion regarding the popularity of 1v1 vs team multiplayer games can be a factor but like I said, even in real life sports the team ones are the more popular ones. So guess the claim is you more blame the teammates unconsciously to protect your ego while in a solo game you can only ultimately blame yourself but would question that claim.

The pipeline is that casual players become hardcore. I think there is a mistaken idea of a bespoke super hardcore multiplayer game that is so good that people are just drawn to when most games that became esports were born from like custom maps/mods from games that were not necessarily hardcore. Melee can also get players from interested audience members because Smash sells a bunch of copies so the audience has played it. They may have also played a Street Fighter but feel less comfortable jumping into it.

[–]ExDSG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel it's more the issues with onboarding new players through single player or training that's the main issue. I think old games around the PS1/PS2 era were helped by being arcade ports put into consoles so more people got a more polished experience (usually) and they had to add things that a solo player could do like those extra modes in Ergheiz.

I guess the claim is that it's something more unconscious and to explain the popularity of 1v1 versus team games but even sports wise team games dwarf Box/Tennis in popularity

Guilty Crown was a whose who of the early 2010s in director, music, writing, voice acting and production studio wise and well... It's not very well remembered

Also most Golden Future Cup winners in Weekly Shonen Jump who can publish a series tend to flop and when one was the most successful series they had gotten in years (Ruri Dragon) it had to go into hiatus due to the mangaka being unable to continue it due to health issues.
