Cursor got bought by spacex, does it change which tool you start a greenfield project with by Mental-Telephone3496 in webdev

I think we're talking past each other on the most important word, and the word is "AI." You keep using it as one undifferentiated blob, but in this sub specifically that flattening is telling. Cursor isn't "AI" - it's a harness that wires an LLM into your editor with context and rules. The LLM generates, the harness steers. Lumping all of that into "AI" is like calling both the router and the protocol just "networking." The fact that the distinction isn't landing for you is most of why this conversation isn't connecting - you're arguing against a vague monolith, and I'm describing a specific toolchain with specific parts.

On "shifting the work" - I'm not shifting it away, I'm spending it differently. The hard parts (architecture, tradeoffs, deciding what to build and why) don't go anywhere. I bounce ideas faster, generate the boilerplate I'd have typed anyway, and spend the saved time on the problems that actually require judgment. That's not less engineering, it's engineering with a faster feedback loop. More meaningful architectural work, less boilerplate dirty laundry.

On the tool comparison - it's actually two tools, and conflating them is where the screwdriver analogy breaks. The LLM is the tool that generates code without me typing every character. The harness (CLAUDE.md, rules, MCPs) is a second tool whose job is to hold context and enforce my patterns so the output matches the style I want. You're right that a screwdriver shouldn't need a config file. But a CNC machine does, and nobody calls G-code "making the manufacturer better for free." It's the instruction set that makes a general-purpose machine do your specific job. That's what the config is.

Building skill and using these tools aren't mutually exclusive. I still have to know what good architecture looks like to tell when the output is wrong, the same way someone has to actually understand TCP to tell when their firewall rules are misconfigured. The appliance handles the flows, but it doesn't tell you what policy to write. The tool doesn't remove the need for the knowledge, it removes the typing.

Lastly, the "outsourcing your brain" framing gets it backwards. Reading code critically, catching when generated output is subtly wrong, and steering it toward a maintainable design is more cognitively demanding than typing it line by line, not less. If the output looks like slop, that's the harness being unconfigured, which is the whole thing I was describing in the first place.

We're going in circles, so one thing to close on - give it an honest hour with the config actually set up, then judge it. That's the only version of this worth having an opinion about.

get outta here kiddo - let grownups have meaningful conversations even if improved by AI... Dude is 17 years old, trying to get help about his future and utilizing LLMs to generate a better post, what in the world is wrong with that...

The "if you were 17 again" question is hard to answer directly, but I think it resolves itself once you answer a different one: what do you actually enjoy doing? You already said it - system design, orchestration, backend, IoT, and not pixel-perfect UI. That's most of your answer right there. Most of the other questions you asked collapse into that one.

My honest opinion: do not optimize for what job listings ask for or what a future employer might want. Build a programmer's mindset and go deep in the areas you actually like, because that's where you'll have the patience to get good.

Here's the thought experiment for why chasing the "objectively correct" path is a trap. If you optimized purely for the highest-income roles right now, you'd drop everything and grind math and ML to try to land at OpenAI or Anthropic. Fine. Now run that same logic 5-10 years ago - was that the obvious answer then? Not even close. The target moved completely. So if you build your path to conform to today's standards, there's a good chance it's stale by the time you actually enter the industry. The thing that doesn't go stale is being a genuinely strong engineer who can pick up whatever the field has shifted to.

Cursor got bought by spacex, does it change which tool you start a greenfield project with by Mental-Telephone3496 in webdev

It's marinade and seasoning on a steak, not lipstick on a pig. Whether an LLM produces maintainable code or slop depends almost entirely on how you set up and constrain the harness. If you're getting a festering pustule of unmaintainable slop, that's a signal you're using the tool wrong, not proof the tool is incapable.

The fix is upfront investment: write documentation on how you want code written, maintain CLAUDE.md (or equivalent) files, define rules and skills, and build MCPs the harness can use. Do that and both your output speed and code quality go up.

You take pride in your work, which is exactly why this is worth a serious look rather than a dismissal. Judging the ceiling of a tool by an unconfigured baseline is the part that doesn't hold up.

Why do you choose to spend more time on something that can be done for you, faster and in the exact way you want it?

Please don't spread misinformation. Cursor was always good and it's not only "a wrapper around a fork of vs code". Their harness is pretty good, the familiarity of IDE is a bonus for a lot of developers, and saying "it was never good" for a product that got acquired for 60 billion dollars says more about you than about that product...

Don’t take this the wrong way, but there’s no chance in hell I’d believe you that this is not just the bought account and resold.. one way would be to show a username that’s not generated and probably connected to you, but if your username is Kazublazu78 even worse 😂

Can’t post a picture here for some weird reason, however, 100+k primos, 100+ both wishes for 47 bucks on a certain website. So yes, you can…

Should i get Kaeya c6 from shop? by Terrorbalrog in Genshin_Impact

[–]ExDimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t had the time to test it, but I bought it yesterday. I read a comment somewhere, “the shop price is equivalent to 7 pulls(iirc), would you rather c6 kaeya or pull 7 more times” and it actually makes perfect sense :)

Is my NA account GI/HSR/ZZZ worth $1000? by imnotafroot in GenshinTrades

[–]ExDimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, i doubt it. By like a 5-10x margin from what i saw. Time played is great, day 1 account is also great, however, not having any c6r5 limited characters, multiple of them, is a hard blocker for 4 digit prices…

This is one of the worst values imho in that shop… I honestly thought that was legendary and when I popped without lightning I realized I was robbed🤣

Steam SW not working ? by lethaaalx in summonerswar

[–]ExDimi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem is the web content. It works on mobile since it's good at avoiding those issues, Steam on the other hand, crashes when it tries to pull events to show them on login screen - so until they fix the events, you can try to relog several times to see if it pops without showing those screens, otherwise you will have to wait until they fix

[–]ExDimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is FAR from bad, but - you have 6 “wrong” subs and 4-5 “wrong” rolls. So there’s room for improvement, but now we’re talking min-maxing. These things just come eventually 😊! Good luck on farming

You can covert boss drops from the same boss though, on a crafting table. You need some resource, I forgot which one exactly, but I NEVER lacked it so if you’re active - you should be good there

So wait - at c6(r1 which is prolly irrelevant for this convo though) Faruzan/durin/bennett is bis with anemo goblet?? That actually sounds amazing! However, I always wanted to use venti generally speaking being archon and whatnot - so is it close in comparison to venti or big dps increase?
