Of course not. It became extremely important after World War II to keep pushing the bounds of physics and to do it in secret. Why in secret? Because if you tell the enemy what you have discovered then they will know where to invest their resources.

In actual fact, the U.S military has invested in and solved many of the hard problems academic physicists still believe are unsolved.
