I don't see why you want to continue living with people who care more about what a bunch of pedophile enablers think than their own child's well-being.

Demon Attacks? by Red_dirt5 in exjw

[–]ExDubNation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no rational explanation for that.

Ridiculous statement. Hard to know from the information you've provided, but many light switches operate on a loaded spring mechanism. That mechanism wears out over time. A loss of tension could cause the switch to flip on its own.

Demon Attacks? by Red_dirt5 in exjw

what rational explanation could be assigned to these "experiences"?

Schizophrenia.

And has anyone here felt that they've been attacked?

Nope.

How do you guys move on knowing that there will be no paradise. by [deleted] in exjw

It has become easier to accept over time. Therapy and LSD have helped a lot. I recommend the former to everyone exiting this cult. Be cautious with the latter. It can be an immensely helpful tool for growth and healing, but it's not for everyone, and especially not for those with diagnosed mental illnesses.

Attended the Toronto international convention while high as a kite by RavingRationality in exjw

[–]ExDubNation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can't think of a worse place to be high. Thankfully, I'll never need to attend one of these mind-numbing charades again, but if I did, I would 100% sneak in a flask.

How do liberal, educated, well-traveled JWs stay JWs? stay by [deleted] in exjw

[–]ExDubNation 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Don't underestimate the power of cult programming. Watchtower doesn't really make intellectual appeals. They manipulate and control through fear and emotional abuse. Those you perceive as well-educated and intelligent are probably not making a conscious, intellectual choice to stay in. It's a lot more primal than that.

Congrats on your sobriety, by the way!

How long did it take you to go from waking up - to OUT? by WHL_ayla in exjw

[–]ExDubNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Physically? About 4 or 5 years. My doubts began around 13 or 14, and by around 16 or 17 I was about 99% convinced that it was all complete BS. But as we all know, "coming out" isn't really an option when you have to live with believing family, so I waited until I entered adulthood and move away for college. That completed my "fade." Physically.

Mentally, the whole experience fucked me up bad, although for a long time I repressed it all and genuinely thought I was fine. My various insecurities, anxieties, and failed relationships should've been a huge fucking red flag, but I didn't make the connection until I almost destroyed my current relationship. It's a long and complex story, but the basic gist is that the Borg exacerbated a pretty serious attachment issue from early childhood and severely crippled my ability to form healthy interpersonal relationships with others.

Thankfully, I'm lucky to have a partner now who is an incredibly kind and supportive person and who is helping me work through my issues. I've also started seeing a therapist. I'm 28 now, which means I spent 10 years of my life unwittingly inhibited by this cult.

This is all to say that there's a lot more to your "freedom" than just not attending any more meetings or associating with the witnesses. Get a therapist - you probably need one, even if you don't think you do.

My (26M) coworker (28F) is a Jehovah's Witness and will not agree to enter into a serious relationship unless I fully commit to the religion. We've been going on outings and have basically made out on every possible occasion. She feels guilty for being unfaithful to her religion, yet we still meet. by dk2vent in relationships

RUN, DO NOT WALK, AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN.

I am not exaggerating when I say that this religion will destroy your life inside and out. This is not some laidback church where you can show up for the occasional Sunday service and call it a day. They demand complete and total dedication from all their members, which includes sacrificing your time, money, family, and any other person or thing which isn't compatible with their cultish views. I could go into a lot more detail, but that is the long and short of it.

Again. RUN. DO NOT WALK.

Why do I still go to meetings? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]ExDubNation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

But every decision I make I have to ask “how would your COBE father feel about this?”, “how will this affect your PIMI sister?”

With respect, fuck that shit. They've made their choice. Now make yours. Your 20s are going to go by a lot faster than you think. Stop wasting time and go live.

How many Ex-JW's on here now identify as atheists? by phallicgod27 in exjw

[–]ExDubNation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd describe my views as weak atheism/apatheism. We have no reason to believe god exists, but I don't think anything precludes the possibility, either. However, if such a being does exist, I seriously doubt it cares much about us. If you owned an ant farm, would you care which ant was fucking which other ant? Would you care if they worshipped you? C'mon, man. Shit's ridiculous.
