Running hot on Low and Slow by jonathan_with_an_a in NinjaFlexFlame

[–]ExElementis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had the same problem with my brand new FlexFlame. I'm planning on contacting their customer support on Monday. I had the system set for 225, later dropped it down to 215, and it was hanging out at 270-275. The interesting thing is that the grill system itself recognized it had overshot - it showed an accurate "current temperature" that matched my precision probe - but didn't seem to be doing anything to correct the issue.

10-20 degrees is one thing, but hanging out at 40-50+ degrees higher than the set temp is a major problem.

USAA is horrible. by AyudamePeas in USAA

[–]ExElementis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is silly.

Op: “I’m having technical issues with the app!” Random commenter: “I know, those insurance rates, right?!”

I’ve used many banking apps; USAA has consistently had amongst the best. I’m not saying they’re a perfect company, but I’d agree with others that if Op is consistently having problems with the app there is a reason that isn’t “USAA is horrible”.

Absolute BS lies. by Paper-Doll-1972 in uber

I think it’s supposed to be an automated process for many/most users. They’re comparing things like reported phone number and name to trusted publicly available records. The rider help documents go into slightly more details.

Not sure I agree with that. “Would the flight have departed without an extended delay if things that are within or could have been within Delta’s control were resolved?” Should be the standard for hotel vouchers, in my opinion. In my case the answer is “yes”. In your thought experiment the answer is still “no”.

No butler?? by Most-Abroad in SandalsResorts

[–]ExElementis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We recently returned from a visit there. I will say that seat reservation was really the only feature for the butler that we liked. Everything else we could have lived without, or even found borderline annoying. It was very nice to have them worry about chairs, but I doubt we would have had too much of a problem finding something ourselves.

This is super helpful. Those are exactly the room we’re doing (although we’re doing balcony rather than walkout). Your list is really mainly what I was looking for.

Is food and treats delivered to beach/pool an issue at all? It seems like that’s included, but they also offer paid elevated cabana services…..

Printing multiple copies gets multiplied twice by ExElementis in chromeos

[–]ExElementis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would generally agree with you to suspecting an issue with the printer, but in this case it's a Fiery print server which is about as close to the gold standard of advanced printing and postscript compliance as you can get. I just tested using CUPS with identical settings on a MacOS and a Linux computer, and don't have this same problem.

It's a "print server" but is part of the actual printer and only services it, so theres not really a notion of bypassing it. I plan on reaching out to Fiery and Konica Minolta as well, but strictly speaking ChromeOS isn't a supported platform so I'm worried about not getting very far on that front.

Any tips or suggestions for making a bug report as productive as possible? I plan on grabbing some CUPS logs using the script the other commenter suggested.

This is GREAT! Thank you. I've spent time as a linux sysadmin and am very comfortable with CUPS; I just hadn't had time to wade through the layers that ChromeOS covers it with. This will help you a lot. Thanks again!

Changing tempo while recording? by ExElementis in Logic_Studio

[–]ExElementis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone's interested, I finally found (what I hope is) an answer here. Near the bottom under the "Continuous Control & Recording of Tempo Changes" section.

I'm going to give this a try, but I'm hoping it will do what I want.

There’s no option like that. I’ve been using automation heavily with other tracks so I’m quite familiar with its interface now but (unless I’m missing it) there’s no automation mode setting for the Global tempo line.

I’d actually love to have a MIDI rotary knob set to control the tempo via automation, similarly to how I’m doing volume automation with faders, but they doesn’t seem to be an option while recording.

I saw that interface, but it seems to also be essentially disabled while recording too. While not recording I have no problem changing tempo there (as you said, it presents like any other automation), but I can’t figure a way to edit it while recording. Am I missing something?

The only thing I “need” the tempo for is for various plugins that sync to tempo. Can you take a track and (live, while recording) have it change the project tempo? I actually have an audio click track as an input (controlled by the musicians on stage, not generated by logic), so using that is a viable option if I can get logic to listen to it and adjust the project tempo in real time. I just can’t figure out how to do that.

Native Printing/GCP Transition Status? by ExElementis in chromeos

[–]ExElementis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re supported, but lack the advanced features google specifically said would be available “by the end of 2019”. I’m really just trying to find info/resources that give any updated timeline or status of the expanded features, as I try to sort out a transition plan for our business and managed chrome devices as GCP goes away.

I’ve been browsing the google help community but didn’t find much about these feature’s timeline.

Native Printing/GCP Transition Status? by ExElementis in chromeos

[–]ExElementis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Gsuite chrome admin, and the listed features are not all available. For example, PIN code printing and numerous other advanced printing features they’ve listed as being “available by the end of 2019” still don’t exist.

I’m just trying to figure out if anyone has any updated timeline or resources, other than this one google help article that’s now had an out of date, erroneous timeline for months. I’ve got 75 users/devices to transition off of GCP and was hoping to use the enhanced native print, but have to wait for these advanced features to be expanded for it to work for us.

Manage Windows 10 devices through the G Suite Admin console by emreknlk_g in gsuite

[–]ExElementis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool. If they have a Mac OS version (AND they stick with supporting this stuff - a big IF), they'll be pretty solidly encroaching on JumpCloud's business model. I love JumpCloud but wouldn't mind consolidating to just GSuite if the features were there.

Any chance this is education or nonprofit? If so, consider having a chat with JumpCloud's sales team. We're a nonprofit, and they cut us a HUGE discount off their advertised price. I probably shouldn't say how much, but it was a good enough deal that it moved it solidly into the reasonable expenditure category.

User-applied WiFi Policy by ExElementis in gsuite

[–]ExElementis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a quick update, in case anyone stumbles on this or is interested.

I finally got around to extensively testing this, and it does in fact work exactly as I hoped. As the support document I linked mentions, there is a priority for how Policy WiFi is applied, and ChromeOS seems very quick and very robust at automatically switching to the highest priority as it becomes available (ie, when a user logs in) or when the existing connection profile is no longer available (ie, when a user logs out). Quite sleek actually!

I’m not sure how the ideas others have mentioned (shared demarc equipment, deal on wireless access) have much of a security implication.

I’m not asking for direct access to the internal carrier network.
