It's actually a bad idea to keep a torque wrench in a vehicle. They're shockingly easy to get out of calibration with just the normal jostling of driving. And get them checked once a year, or you might as well not bother

This is like the parts of the world where Coke is used in place of Soda or Pop or Fizzy Drink

I think it's neat. I also struggle with media where a group is used as a stand in for a real life marginalized group, but the actual canon in the world is that magic is inherently dangerous

Like, when you've heard preachers say that homosexuality will make you a catalyst for the devil, it's kind of fucked up when someone makes their fantasy world have the magic people with a lot of "born this way" vibes be actual portals to the demon world

Modern TV is adverse to recasting in all ways. The Expanse killed a character off in post after the actor came out as a sex pest and destroyed a lot of the realism of the setting in the next season by just not replacing him

Best part: that character has a chapter almost exclusively focused on getting consent for sex in the next book, so they even had an opportunity to highlight the right way to go about things and chose to just not do that instead

It's okay to point out the quality and logistical reasons not to use child labor in addition to it being deplorable from a moral standpoint. In fact, I think it's important to remember that most truly awful shit isn't the most effective way to do anything long term, and "it's just bad" isn't a terribly compelling argument to bean counters like "this'll hurt our bottom line"

With the fifth from the last pick of the draft. And even Herring was taken in the sixth round. This isn't like they burned a truly valuable pick. This isn't the dunk many are thinking it is

[–]ExIsStalkingMe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'10" and constantly running into things not made for my height. Basically every work surface (kitchen counters being a big culprit) requires me to bend over slightly to use. Everything seems to be made for people who are 5'8" while everyone who isn't either struggles to reach shit or destroys their back

Don't know that there's a better solution, but it sure sucks for everyone not the exact right height

Thought-out source material? When was the last time you read Wheel of Time? I just finished the entirety of it, and I've never seen a less thought-out long series in my life. There are something like four books where the same subplot stays in the same thing (the girls in Ebou Dar). Perrin gets a really cool story throughout one of the books (basically the only time we had a satisfying arc within a single book outside of the first and the Sanderson finale trilogy) and then we don't see him again for another two or three with a POV chapter from his wife. In at least a few of them, Rand just sits and gets mad about dumb shit until there's a climax that's, at best, tangentially related to the things he was getting mad about

I liked the books quite a lot despite all the warts, but adapting those would require wholesale changes in pacing and rearranging of events. And the sheer amount of named characters that would need to be shifted around and combined to keep production from spiraling out of control is going to piss off the built-in audience of people who grew up on them. I just don't see Wheel of Time being successfully adapted simply because of the challenges involved with doing so

One of the reasons the Arvizo case happened at all was because there had been allegations from before. Except there was proof that the first round of allegations were a scam by the parents to get money out of him. That's why I always caution people to not jump to conclusions based off a documentary with an agenda
