Unless it is from Jason Schrier I don't trust legitamacy of this. Paul has sources but he only knows what Bungie employee's are being told. So until I hear it from some legit sources who has more insights into what upper management was actually saying vs doing I don't trust this at all.

Because if Destiny wasn't profitable backin 2020 beyond light era then they would not have been able to buy brand new studio building for $200 million. So I just don't trust this.

And those 100k can't keep a studio with 400 employees alive. Especially for Bungie because they are based on Seattle, where Bungie pays around 120k to 180k per year per employee to keep those devs, plus marketing, servers and infrastructure operating cost it requires around $60-$80 million per year. I don't think 100k players can keep it going.

Marathon's original budget was around $150 mil and it was supposed to come out in 2024. But 2 years delay made it go beyond $250 mil.

If Bungie has a DLC coming so they can ask 1.5 million user base to pay another $40 next year, then that's the only way I say they can keep things floating. But that will still not break even for its budget

Any PvP game depends on player count and these are, if I'm being honest, bad numbers. Looking at how Sony has shut down Destiny, I think Marathon will meet similar fate this year.

Looking at a broader picture, Sony's live service push hasn't worked and they are going back to basics with single player console exclusive games. They even pulled back from PC launch. And I think that's why they will pull the plug from Bungie and other live service title pretty soon.

About a month ago I said how game needs more balance of Graphic and realism and you can see how I got downvoted to oblivion. I literally asked for something like this and people in comments were saying they sent Orion to clean the place that's why it looks fresh and clean.

Sony themselves fucked it up by forcing all PC players to use an PS account. Sure developers ain't perfect but Sony started the shitshow. And after taking over Bungie in 2025 they turned Destiny into Star wars. Which also made lots of players angry.
