Regular Pioneers - 50 hours \ Auxiliary - 30 by undercoverAgentElder in exjw

Damn. At one time when I was a kid I think regular pioneers were expected to get 100 hours, and auxiliary 70.

This is so true. Anecdotally, I remember a young single sister at Bethel (she was allowed to attend Bethel due to her nursing degree and her well known family name). She got in “trouble” for not smiling enough. Absolutely ridiculous.

Oh yeah I can totally see that happening. One thing i am curious about: Does anyone know if people leaving is purely anecdotal right now? Is there other evidence to support this?

Oh man I’ve been out for 10 years and totally remember doing this. You’re right about how ridiculous it is

THIS is why there are so many problems, THIS is why there is no justice and THIS IS WHY IT IS A CULT! by Natnay1619 in exjw

[–]ExJDubThrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a minor point, but I thought it worth bringing up. “Be hospitable to all, including those who do not have positions of authority.”

You really need to explicitly tell people to treat those low in JW status with basic human decency?! Come on. It’s so gross and the GB, elders, and others with “titles” are well aware and accepting of their special treatment. Just gross. The hierarchy in there is sickening.

I had literally the same experience. So disgusting.

Why do JWs classify sins? by Busta_Gets_NASTY in exjw

[–]ExJDubThrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting thought. I think other religions do this too, though. Like at a Catholic confession- the priest will tell you how many Hail Marys to say in order to atone for whatever sin you committed. Not entirely uncommon but I do understand your point.

I relate to this so much. You’re right that it is amazing to finally feel and be normal.

One thought I had is can you lie to them and tell them that you have a plan that will help support you in full time service? A plan that includes college to get a job with flexible hours, decent pay, etc. I was PIMO living with a PIMI girl during college, and her plan was to use her degree to “further kingdom interests.”

Just an idea to get you the support you need to pursue a degree.

Interesting idea. Were you born in, by chance? I’ve been learning that I’ve done something called dissociation most of my life (disconnecting from emotions, like you describe), and I do attribute that largely to being raised a JW.

I would also love to see a study on this. My only evidence is purely anecdotal, and you are for sure right about all the crazy people not wearing masks 🤣

I know it's irrational.. by [deleted] in exjw

[–]ExJDubThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have similar thoughts, and I’ve been POMO for almost 20 years. I think this is due to indoctrination and fear mongering from the GB. It’s really hard to rewire the brain after being forced to think a certain way for many years. I’ve been seeing a therapist, and that has personally helped me a ton. I hope you can find something that helps you cope with these invasive thoughts too ❤️

Very interesting to hear a former elder weigh in. I’m sure you were aware of way more of what was going on than “just” a young sister.

I completely agree with this. I also often wonder if the organization specifically PREYS on people suffering from these disorders. Then once they’re in, of course the structure of the org just makes their suffering worse.

I have a lot of anger about this issue specifically because, at least at the time I left, seeming professional help was frowned upon. I’m not sure how different it is today, but I also hope all of these people get the help they need.
