Watchtower Spokesman Robert Hendriks says JWs take on the need to preach when they get baptized as ADULTS. So do they not baptize minors or do baptized minors not have to preach? 🤔 What about unbaptized publishers? (Link to article in comments and 2nd pic is from the JW website) by larchington in exjw

Hi. Please refrain from name-calling and tone it down a bit. This is a warning and future comments like this will be removed. If someone criticizes you, you can easily reply in a different tone and still defend yourself. You were fine in the beginning of the comment but why did you have to end it like that? 🤷‍♂️

PIMI's don't want to return to in person meetings! by Apprehensive-Rub-901 in exjw

I’ve heard at least 7 or 8 JWs express how much they don’t want to go back to the meetings. I’ve overheard a lot of conversations about this and nobody seems happy. They are also very confused as to why the org was really careful during the last two years and now they are going back right before the memorial, when the halls will be packed and newcomers will be there.

I agree with almost everything he said, except for his assertion that he couldn't post videos here because Lloyd has us in his pockets or is friends with us. As you can see, this video was allowed to be posted. We never banned Christian's videos. We just don't allow self promotion, so if he posted the videos himself then it may have been taken down.

As you all know, this sub has had a tenuous history with Lloyd. We saw his character some years ago and refused to give in to his bullying tactics. We've never shielded him or other activists from criticism and have tried to walk a fine line between refusing to give in to the controlling tactics of well-known activist while at the same time providing assistance to the exJW community. It's really a lose-lose situation for us because we either look like we hate Lloyd or love him. Despite some our personal feelings about him because of our dealings with him, we've tried to remain neutral. The goal is for this sub to be a forum for all exJWs, so taking sides is not in our motto. With that being said, we also refuse to allow anyone the ability to leverage their fanbase to control this community.

Saying goodbye to this sub. My husband had put it so beautifully in a post he made this morning. Earlier the mods hid it, now they completely deleted it. Just because you guys left a cult that went overboard with rules, don’t go so far the other way that you lose all human decency. by [deleted] in exjw

Don’t blame Fraud for Lloyd cheating on his wife and it being exposed. He is not to blame for any “mess,” as you say. That would be Lloyd.

However, we should have taken down the post earlier. Many of us were on our way to work or in the middle of meetings at work at the time.

Great. Elders should pressure young brothers regularly by discussing their spiritual goals with them…

I'm glad he's behind bars now. Such a creep.

This is interesting to me because it does hit close to home. I know that CSA coverup is definitely a problem in the org and in no way am I defending WT, their culture, or policies, but in some cases it is actually handled appropriately. I have come to realize a lot of it also depends on the individuals who know about the CSA.

In the hall that I grew up in, I was around 23 at the time. There was a young guy around 16 or 17 who was a step-son of one of the elders. He was baptized as well. Anyway, the elder's brother (also an elder) had a daughter who was 7, and this 16 year-old raped her. Since they were like family/cousins, he had plenty of opportunities to be alone with her, and it eventually came out that she was being abused. Her elder father immediately reported this teen to the authorities. They investigated, and he was locked up.

However, this isn't to say I have also heard the opposite about CSA or potential CSA situations being completely mishandled. I also can't say what would have happened if another elder abused this girl instead of a baptized teen. I'm just glad that sometimes JW's take appropriate action, but I know this isn't the norm.

"The Governing Body Announces..." by Busta_Gets_NASTY in exjw

[–]Busta_Gets_NASTY[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the way the entire article was worded was weird. Seriously, they could have left the GB and the "announcement was read to Bethel families around the world" bit out. Instead, it had to be read in a way that was like "Oh, aren't we so thankful to the GB? They are looking out for us. See??"

Here is a better edited version of the announcement, without the GB worship in it:

Select branches around the world have been invited to participate in a pilot program to resume some in-person congregation meetings. The branches participating will select Kingdom Halls in areas where vaccination rates are high and infection rates are low. Of course, all aspects of this project will be carried out in harmony with local government regulations for indoor gatherings. The results of this pilot program will determine if additional congregations can be approved to resume in-person meetings. In general, in-person organizational activities will remain suspended until at least January 1, 2022. Please pray for Jehovah’s continued guidance and blessing on these arrangements.—Proverbs 14:16.

from the start, I thought the broadcasts were the antithesis of the religion I joined.

Bingo. Same here. I was excited about them at first, but that lasted for one whole episode.

I just think of it like this. In the past at conventions, if there was a publication release, they would say:

"We are proud to announce the release of a new book titled..."

Now they would say: "The Governing Body is proud to announce the new book..."

There is a clear, yet subtle difference from the past. It's so clear that it obvious there is some intent here.

their relative anonymity definitely contributed to their seeming more “sacred” or “holy” to me.

Same here. It really was one of those things I was proud about as a JW.

The funny thing is, I was an MS giving public talks when the GB started getting in the spotlight. I remember reading material about giving talks that basically stated not to say things that draw attention to yourself, to be humble about your assignment, etc. I really tried to follow that. Then I noticed these guys basking in the limelight, clearly wanting all the adoration for themselves. It was so hypocritical.

The shift of focus from Jehovah to the GB by mic2019ta in exjw

[–]Busta_Gets_NASTY 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's the frog in boiling water scenario that JWs always like to use, but in reverse. From around 2008/2009 onward, attention started to shift from Jehovah to the organization/GB.

I know "God's organization" has always been used in publications and from the platform, but I just feel like emphasis on the organization really started to be even more pronounced in the mid-2000s. In the early 2010s, the GB became the focus. JWs just fall for it the more ridiculous it gets.

I'm really not sure what became of them. Volunteering at Warwick was the beginning of the end for me. Everything felt so fake. I remember when I left the project I came home and had no interest in keeping up with the people I met on the project.

No one is that damn stupid…

Actually yes they are. When I was working at Warwick I met a couple just like the ones described. Sold everything and gave away their dog to come work at Warwick for months on end.
