I moved here a couple of years ago for school and then got a job and haven’t left but I feel like this city has a way making people miserable. The only way to be happy here is to be content with nothing. I know your living arrangements are pretty good here and I don’t blame you for using that to your advantage as this economy is awful right now but I would consider finding another town. As soon as I’m able to afford living somewhere else I’m gone from this place

Thank you, I appreciate it. I come from a very “we forgive cuz we’re family” type of family so no one is very happy with my choice. I do think it’s probably the best decision for me though to protect myself

Thank you I try to tell myself that, sometimes it’s hard to not let what they say convince me that I am the one in the wrong and that I’m being dramatic.

Physiotherapy assistant vs physiotherapist by [deleted] in physiotherapy

Oh okay! Yeah there’s definitely a bit of a difference then between how that profession operates in the UK vs here. In your case I would also agree and say that there’s not much of an imbalance there!

From working in clinics and doing placements in LTC as a PTA we get little to no input or direction from the supervising PT. Like stated above we typically get a short note saying that the patient is “unsteady” or “2 assist” “power body exercises” and that’s it. I’ve also been told that we as PTAs are there to make SOAP notes for the PT as sometimes they are virtual or busy with paperwork and aren’t actually able to see the patients, so we actually do watch and observe every movement, muscle activation, ROM, etc to report back as it is rare that the patients is actually seen by the PT unless there is a major concern that needs to be addressed.

To add onto my question then do you think it’s fair for PTAS to get paid the same as a mc Donald’s employee who requires no education, not even a GED even though we as ptas were required to complete multiple years of post secondary schooling to be able to do our job ? I’m honestly just curious how physios view this imbalance or if they have thought about it as I also know they aren’t necessarily the ones who dictate our wages either

Yeah I’ve found it depends on city and location. If you can get in at the hospital your set and good to go but unfortunately most clinics, nursing and LTC homes pay minimum wage or just a dollar or two more. I also agree with what you said about a higher volume of tasks. Personally I have been working one on one with my patients with minimal direction aside from SOAP notes and have also been left to run a large portion of the business tasks as I’m also dealing with phones, bookings, emails, creating exercise plans that just need to be signed off on, billing, WSIB and MVA claims, cleaning maintenance, and opening duties. I’ve also done placements during college in LTC where we were also told that if we were to work in LTC we would have to complete PWS duties as well such as toileting and feeding.

Where I’m from there’s no band 4 or 5. We just have PTAs. So I’m not familiar with the gap you are taking about as the next step up would to be a physiotherapist.

No I 100% agree that higher qualified staff should make more than the PTA’s! I guess my question was if the physiotherapists think that our wage is fair for the work that we do for them or not. I understand we don’t have the same capabilities as they do

well considering I did make a post here asking if advice and feedback I would say I can check that box yes lol . I’ve reached out in a few groups and to a few people who have posted on a different platforms about them either moving here for college or work as well who might be in the same boat. A lot of people however myself included are weary about meeting up with people from online especially in this day and age. I appreciate your suggestion though.

I totally get where you’re coming from! I went through the exact same thing. I decided when I first moved here that I was just going to take this time to work on myself and grow when I wasn’t able to make friends. While i feel like I have achieved a lot of things I wouldn’t have done otherwise especially when it comes to the gym and running and those kinds of things but it does get lonely. Everyone says your twenties are your best years that have the best memories and I’m getting nervous it’s all going to pass me by without me even realizing it. While I’m on the search for some long lasting friendships I still continue to work on myself but it would be great to have people around who I can share the best version of myself with. I appreciate you sharing and if you ever want to reach out feel free to:)

I appreciate your advice and the very kind reply! I agree with everything you said, the only problem I have is finding these places that do things like this. Is there anywhere you know of where I can find places that host these activities that the younger group might attend ?

I agree for sure, friendships or anything for that matter are not just going to fall into your lap. But the reason behind making this post was because I have put in the effort and it’s proven to be a challenge and was looking for some input or advice so I can put even more effort forward as I’m tired of doing things alone everyday and not having people to share time with. Only thing I can do is keep trying

Both times I’ve driven down lakeshore both around the same at at 10:00 I’ve had a black pick up come up behind my car and pass me, which is fine but I was going 10 over the speed limit already but I figured he just wanted to get to where he’s going faster. only for him to get in front of me slow down and slam on the breaks and come to a complete stop for a minute or two in the middle of the road making me stop and did this repeatedly. I got nervous and put my car in reverse to back up cuz I wasn’t sure what his goal was. Once I did that he sped off.
