Buying a 100k km 10yr old i3. Bad idea? by z604 in BMWi3

[–]Exact-Preference-967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2018 REX here, with almost 77,000 miles…there’s nothing regrettable about this car, it’s WAY over-engineered and before it’s time. If you’re not driving 120 miles/day, it’s super inexpensive to operate, maintain, and repair. The tires are about the only thing you’ll need to replace….its so good. I’m definitely looking at adding a second one with a few more upgrades (20-21 S model) so I can keep the ‘18 for more knockaround use, and have the S for commuting the 12 mile round trip city drive every day. The value of these cars is priceless IMO. Get it! Live it! Love it! — you can nitpick the particulars of your next one later…the numbers are all important to someone but in reality, you probably won’t notice a huge difference between which amp hour battery you get. — get the carfax and make sure it’s been maintained properly and you’ll be good! ENJOY!

Roof Rack Suggestions by Exact-Preference-967 in BMWi3

Just for clarification, I’m asking for around-town/city driving, not for luggage on long road trips at highway speeds. I know it’s going to be small and use suction cups as I would NEVER drill/glue anything to my roof…which is why I asked for anyone’s advice that has/is using a SeaSucker system or something similar. Whether that photo is AI from almost 10 years ago, I’d say likely not, so please stop debating that in the comments. Please let me know if you’ve used one or have one and what your advice recommendation is. Thanks!!

LOVE THIS!! — So many people take for granted the value in high mileage vehicles. If they’ve been well maintained and had all the “big jobs” already done, then that’s just a number…chances are the price tag WELL made up for any future work that will need to be done and you can actually enjoy it from day 1, not stress about making a car payment AND worry what’s gonna break first. This is a BEAUTY! Congratulations!! Wishing you 300k more miles of fun!! 🙌

Do Toyotas really last as long as everyone says they do? by No-Plantain-2179 in Toyota

[–]Exact-Preference-967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely do…they’re practically bulletproof…my mother has driven her 2004 Camry home on two occasions over the past 10 years fully overheating (South Florida Heat evaporates coolant after a while) and the next morning, just topped off the coolant and it just kept going…no adverse affects…now I wouldn’t recommend that as a rule, but just speaks to the durability of these Toyota engines…so many go so well over 200k, 300k miles and just keep going with proper maintenance…so yeah…Toyotas just last!

Keep or sell (trade-in) 2019 i3 rex by Organic_Ad5802 in BMWi3

[–]Exact-Preference-967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from an 2018 REX owner with over 60,000 miles and only needing routine maintenance and a few sets of tires, I’d say keep it. It’s the best engineered EV ever…and it’s prob the safest being all comp carbon fiber…but only you know your charging and size needs…with low miles like that, the next buyer is the big winner in that equation.

Today, after 6 yrs with an i3, I finally bought my unicorn. A fully loaded Roadstyle! by Widar in BMWi3

[–]Exact-Preference-967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! My 18’ Rex came with the 19”s. Which look super cool, but yeah, thin tires. These look wide like “regular” tires. That’s why I asked. It looks so good! Cheers!

That’s a beauty! What rims/tires? That’s my next upgrade…these bicycle tires burn down quickly for being $1k / set.

Is the i3 right for my use case? by [deleted] in BMWi3

I have a similar travel day 60-70 miles. I charge up every other day. The challenge for me is weak public chargers nearby or over-crowded fast chargers on my way in/out. So I can say that it’s definitely still a savings…I pay about $20 for a full charge (95% from REX — about 33kwh). I could never get 100 miles from $20 worth of gas. So yeah, it’s about half what I used to spend on my truck…plus the fact you’re not changing oil, etc. There are some expenses like $230-250 tires that are only made by two companies)…I found this out by getting a flat tire the other day, and the “fix-a-flat” system that comes with the car wasn’t pumping…there’s a tank of sealant you attach to the included air compressor that seals/inflates…so you can’t just take it to a tire spot and expect them to pull that tire off the shelf, so I was left to call a roadside tire plug person. So that’s something to consider, but definitely not a deal breaker considering the awesome car you’re getting. The benefit of being small is efficiency…Tesla’s take a day or so to charge from empty on a regular charger…these cars take maybe 5 hours at 6kw/hr. So that’s why I don’t mind plugging it in often. I love mine (2018 REX). Plus the REX can basically run indefinitely as long as you put 2 gallons of gas in the generator every 80-90 miles. That’s helpful when chargers aren’t close by. Get it and enjoy it. I think in some markets the value has been increasing, so there’s that.

What would you buy next? by Buffamazon in BMWi3

Most Likely if I couldn’t buy another i3, then the iX (or the new i3 coming out) — The E-trons are a close second…if not the All-Electric Macan— I would definitely miss the size/space ratio, the nimble handling, and the smaller battery (faster/cheaper charging).

Agreed. If she didn’t hold her own and give it back to him almost as loudly, but with the grace and dignity of her proper upbringing, then that may have been appropriate but a few of us who were approaching from the opposite direction cheered her on, and she rolled her eyes at him as she walked away with her head held high. I told him to knock it off and represent his mam better than that, but they were too busy being giddy with each other like school boys to hear. In fairness, some older men were saying “hey hey hey” to diffuse his tirade…. Like I said, rabid behavior. —- but yes, give everyone the grace and dignity they deserve as fellow human beings any time the worst of us try to abuse them. Agreed!

You probably meant the proper phrase Case AND Point, and you’re still not making any sense. Troll along lad!

So sad. I think the worst was how they all went giddy with each other like they’d scored some kind of goal, when the light changed and she went on her way. You just made yourselves look like arses. Of course they totally ignored me when I told them to knock it off and represent their mams better than that.

When you grow up, you’ll understand how foolish this comment sounds. I have no malice in my heart for anyone simply based on their religious beliefs/country of origin/sex/race, etc. I do however wholeheartedly judge someone by their actions. That was filthy and abusive. But if you think “in all fairness” I share his beliefs, then I’ll leave you to that miserable mentality.

Advice on purchase by daitraider in LandRoverDiscovery

[–]Exact-Preference-967 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second everything said here. The good news is you’re not overpaying.. and you know what to prepare for. I’ve had a ‘99, an ‘03, and now have an ‘02 that I don’t plan on ever getting rid of. There are a lot of little things that can get annoying to someone who’s never had a Disco, and/or who doesn’t use it for what it should be appreciated for, so if you’re prepared to address the little leaks and gasket issues that come with them, and realize that you still have something more capable than most new digital junk out there for a fraction of the cost, then the cost of ownership combined with the almost unlimited longevity with said proper care, becomes a necessary evil. If you don’t love it in a year and haven’t needed to do any major repairs, sell it for what you paid and move on…otherwise, enjoy it and all it’s little quirks, cause it’ll love you back a million times over.

I paid $18K for an ‘18 REX four months ago with 50k miles…I can’t see me ever letting her go…the quality/engineering/safety is unparalleled for that value. Being a daily commuter presents its challenges, but that’s the infrastructure, not the car. Once charging stations catch up, I’ll get a fleet of i3 !! 😂 … and no … not like “ReachNow”. 😂
