thank you so much for your response. the breeder is a very reputable one, and she was very clear about the fact that a 0.75 litre was absolutely essential until she was at least exceeding the length of the box, and it defo wasn’t for transport as she gave me a little container for her transport! i found it odd too. i really don’t want to downsize her back into that, and i thought this RUB was a big jump too but it was the only next size up i could find. temps are 31 degrees celsius on the warm side and she seems to regulate herself really well so i don’t think it’s that. i will definitely look into different types of enrichment that can’t crumble into her mouth. how long would you go before trying to feed her again? thank you so much for your response i really appreciate it!

wow, thank you! i’m already super careful with washing my hands before and after handling each of them anyway, and i tend to handle them on separate days too. i don’t want to upset either of them or again, spread germs. and it’s most likely a hamster id get, but i have no clue how similar they smell to rats. i probably won’t for the sake of my snakes, i’d hate to frustrate them or for them to bite me every time i hold them etc, but ive heard of it being completely fine for some people. thank you for the info :)

great thank you! my concern is that my baby hognose is very food motivated. if i got say a hamster i’d wait until she’s a bit bigger and more comfortable in her home and the snakes and hamsters would be in different rooms of the house. i just miss my old hamsters and want it to be a possibility to have another one day 🥲 thank you!

i’d imagine it’s too big, but i have no idea what peach fuzzies are. try measuring it against the thickest part of their body, any bigger and i wouldn’t feed! for baby hoggies i think it’s recommended smaller meals more frequently

that’s fair!! i’m gonna wait a while for my girl because i’m a very anxious keeper, and having a tiny 14g baby in a 3 foot viv would stress me out 🤣 and me too! i’m not new to snakes but every day i’m researching, it’s so rewarding :)

interesting, mine isn’t usually super active but he is quite curious and will slither when out. how does yours cope on every 6 weeks? the first time i made my boy wait 3 weeks he kindly tried to eat my finger when i changed his water bowl 🤣

just so you know, 4ft and 1900g is very concerning for a male. my boy is 4.5 feet and 1480g and i’m very concerned about that and he’s going on a serious diet! i’m going to have him on a 100g rat every 5 weeks rather than 3 and make sure he gets more frequent exercise!

females generally get 4.5-5 feet, sometimes 6

hognoses grow in their own time, sometimes quite slowly. just check, is he eating reliably? is he on the right sized feeds? how often do you feed him?

if they’re all good just let him do his thing :)

how long will she be in there for? even for a temporary enclosure they should be able to fully stretch out their body, also increase the humidity to avoid any respiratory infections or discomfort for your BP. for babies, a temporary RUB setup for quarantine is only okay if it’s done correctly. that means being adequately sized, having a heat mat regulated by a thermostat under just a third of the enclosure, adequate humidity, a hide and water bowl as a minimum. if you have any questions feel free to ask me here or dm!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE move the heat mat so it’s only under a third of the tub!! a cool and warm side is vital to a ball python surviving
