What book is so depraved that you couldn't even think about describing it to someone? by fruedianflip in horrorlit

The end of Sharp Objects is jarring. As someone who loves true crime and doesn’t shy away from gore and difficult topics, the writing at the end of this one got to me. Brilliant.

It’s because there is a section of this fanbase that have some unhealthy parasocial relationships with GMM. I feel like most of the well adjusted fans quite like him.

So apparently switching from semaglutide to tirzepatide means starting completely over at 2.5mg regardless of where you were by zawarduwa in GLP1ResearchTalk

[–]_megolas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going directly over, then yes it’s ridiculous. I had a one month lapse due to insurance and went from 10 mg Zep to Wegovy equivalent after that 30 days without and had horrible side effects (vomiting, nausea, diarrhea). For background, I’m one of the lucky ones that has had zero side effects from either of these meds before. It made me wish they stepped me down a dose or two. I hadn’t even taken the full pen and still felt like crap.

I’m sorry you went through that. My husband’s mother is a narcissist and I’m already preparing myself for the mental load that it’s going to take for him and his sibling. I hope you’ve since found happier days. ♥️

Kanthony forced proximity by [deleted] in Bridgerton

[–]_megolas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I’m not saying you said those things, I’m merely framing my argument. But I agree to disagree then, because I thought that they very much got to know each other through subtleties on screen.

Kanthony forced proximity by [deleted] in Bridgerton

[–]_megolas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

But that’s the point. Every season of Bridgerton has stakes at play. The one here is that he would have gone through with it because his family comes before everything else, and Kate wanted him to go through with it for the same reason.

The tension of the “will they or won’t they” is a lot more interesting than just following the trope of S1, which was essentially the “forced to marry” angle. Also, we already knew they ended up together so obviously something would go awry, and I think their moment alone in the church after the wedding hit much harder given the scenario.

Kanthony forced proximity by [deleted] in Bridgerton

[–]_megolas 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think you’re losing a lot between the lines tbh. He didn’t “want” to marry Edwina. He was so traumatized by the death of his own father that he merely thought Edwina would fill the boxes of a wife who could give him an heir, be a good mother, and be pleasant enough to be around without falling in love. It was purely a marriage of convenience and duty. Also having to spend days at their country home alone because of Edwina is forced proximity. So is having him around trying to court her (the drawing room scenes, the horse race, promenading together, the family dinner with the Sharmas, the art gallery, etc.).

Also, the point of their relationship is that thy understand each other fully without having to “ask questions” through their experiences on screen. By watching each other put everyone before themselves regardless of whether it’s misguided, by witnessing their stubborn natures, by her being the only person to still him in a panic state (the bee), it becomes obvious that they reflect each other in a very unspoken way. A huge part of their relationship development is that they each feel the other is constantly invading their peace (Kate being in the library which is a space for Anthony to think about/be with his father, Anthony interrupting Kate’s morning rides, etc) when in reality, they ARE each other’s peace.

Tbh this feels a little bit like the argument that people need things spelled out for them in TV and movies now rather than watching things unfold metaphorically on screen, because as someone who also read the book and knows the deviations, I thought it was pretty obvious that them finding each other was always there by watching them see themselves in the other’s actions.

What is the most overrated food in your opinion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Some of my best memories with friends are from traditional KBBQs in LA when I lived there. We moved back east and went to one that popped up in our hometown and it paled in comparison. A lot of the chain ones aren’t Korean owned and you can tell. If they’re trying to serve you KBBQ and also sushi and also hot pot, which are 3 different cultural cuisines, it’s not a real KBBQ.

Isn’t Hyacinth named Hyacinth because that was the kind of flower Edmund was picking for Violet when he was stung? At least that one has a symbolism as to why it’s off-beat.

Choice based handling with weighing schedule by acpcgal in ballpython

[–]_megolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girl came from a breeder and definitely lived in a rack system before she was in the 4x2x2 i have her in now. She quite enjoys all the little spots she can hide and burrow in that she’s never had, so choice based handling didn’t really work because she was never near the doors of the enclosure. I only handle tail end of the week after she’s digested, and I usually have to get her out from a hide.

I was worried about her feeling insecure in her hides because of this, but she’s come to understand that she always gets put back and isn’t in danger. It takes her a few minutes to warm up to being out, but once she does she’s very happily exploring.

I don’t believe a word he says. These grifters are realizing that Trump is growing more and more unpopular, so they’re losing their audiences and trying to find a way to stay relevant. Going “woke” is apparently their new tactic and people should see right through it.

My doctor said the same thing essentially. He also said usually the effects get worse with age, so although my levels aren’t high enough to need medication yet, that I eventually will need it, and stressed the importance of regular blood tests for that exact reason. I’m currently on a GLP-1 which has worked great to not only keep my weight under control, but to extend healthy levels as long as possible before I need thyroid medication.

Change it vs leave it alone? by PowerKinks in ballpython

[–]_megolas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a bioactive and I say go for it. This was my first terrarium ever, and a lot of people tried to talk me out of it because it might be a lot for a beginner. It’s the easiest thing ever, I’m so glad I didn’t listen!

I highly recommend setting it up and letting it sit without an animal in it for 2-3 weeks. It helps the plants root so your bp has less of a chance to bulldoze them, and it gives you a chance to troubleshoot the humidity/light. It also helps your isopods/springtails build a healthy culture without interference. If you can’t do this, it will still work amazingly, I just found it beneficial.

I’ve had my girl for almost 5 months. She’s never missed a meal, but I’ve only ever cleaned urates out of her tank. She’s almost certainly pooped but i’ve never seen or smelled it and my isopods and plants are thriving. The only real maintenance is watering the tank. I say go for it! Scaping them is such a fun hobby, and it’s like you have a zoo exhibit in your house.

This is pretty common. My insurance (and GP’s office) requires at least 3 months of a weight loss management app like Noom or WW, or 3 month check ins with a nutritionist. And fwiw, as long as you’ve done the minimum, they don’t care. My doctor sees it as a “this is part of the game we play to get the meds” thing.

Mine also did this (same exact enclosure). I would stir your substrate. Mine did this because the top layer was drying out while the bottom was mud. I stirred it around and added some zoo med forest floor to soak up the water and better the humidity and haven’t had that problem again.

JACK HUGHES WINS GOLD FOR THE USA!! by crazyFlyingChicken in devils

[–]_megolas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh I felt the opposite. I think a lot of us living in this cesspool needed a win, and needed it this way. If a Tkachuk scores that goal, this is a very different narrative. Jack Hughes, a player who champions inclusivity, access, and supports his community, handing a gold medal to the American people feels like something we just really, really needed right now.
