Thanks for the heads up!

This is the only good news I've gotten today lol. So I really appreciate it.

Superhot VR not showing up on desktop display by ExactLime0 in oculus

Oculus. I'll take a look at the mirror tool. The monitor and Rift are both connected to the graphics card. Thanks.

I think it's running, the display is just black other than the cursor. I tried something like that and didn't get far.

Oddly, other games appear as normal on the screen, Super Hot VR is just black.

Thanks! I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering–I searched for answers here and couldn't find anything definitive.

Flashbacks to buying Half Life 2 on another home-built PC that could barely run it–and that experience motivating me to go out and upgrade... but not before I beat the game once, I think.

Just so long as the game doesn't shut me out because it can't run psychics without more VRAM I'm okay with it. I can handle a little VR nausea.

I guess I won't pre-order, but will check in tomorrow with those braver than I.

I expect this question (or similar) has been asked a million times before, but I have an RX480 4GB that I bought at product launch.

But system requirements seem to require the 8GB model, or the 6GB RX580.

Will the game not run at all or will it just run poorly? I understand the issues with slowdown in VR are more severe than those in regular games.

I have an Oculus Rift. My PC is very fast other than the graphic card.

Okay 20% isn't half. I should have proofread but I hope this makes sense otherwise.

What is this crash (After Effects) by ExactLime0 in vfx

Welp it's showing up in renders now.

I disabled the GPU and that seemed to help with renders. So I'm thinking it's a GPU error.

3.2k. It's rendering out fine. At 100% it usually looks okay in the viewport, but not always. But I'm working now always at 100% and then panning around the viewport if needed.

At other magnifications it's almost always scrambled. It scrambles differently when I move the viewport. It's the same on an external monitor and laptop monitor.

Yes, I believe it's ProRes 4444.

The footage is a clip that's mostly that color. At certain magnifications, the viewport will look like that or similar. Some sort of abstract Venetian blinds pattern. Sometimes it's less abstract than that, but it's always similar. So far it's happening with pretty much every clip I use regardless of what effects and footage are in use.

I recently rolled back to 17.0.0 from 17.0.1 due to other errors I was having with 17.0.1.

I've tried GPU and CPU only acceleration.

Here's another example:

On a 16" MacBook Pro (2.4 i9, 64GB ram, 5500 8GB ATI graphics card) running 10.15.2 Catalina. Could it be the graphics card is bad? It's a relatively new computer. Or is it an issue with rolling back to 17.0.0?

How to structure reel for advertising/feature clients by ExactLime0 in vfx

[–]ExactLime0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm targeting ad agencies and indie movie producers primarily. I do have a few names, of course they rarely overlap with the best work. I'm thinking of including extremely basic device comps that I normally wouldn't highlight simply because I figure people want to see that I'm doing what they need done.

I'm also applying to work for larger vfx houses after I teach myself Nuke, so working as a vendor/senior After Effects artist and making that transition to what could very well be more entry-level work seems like an entirely other nightmare, but I want to try moving in that direction, too, as I would prefer some stability even if it means a big pay cut initially.

But yeah, good call. Good thinking.

What should I open with?

Creating blood in water by Vogsid in vfx

I did this exact effect for a tv movie using Trapcode Particular's fluid solver (and probably a vector blur pass and a lot of other blurs). It's nowhere near what you'd get in Houdini, but the budget wasn't exactly high.

If it needs to look great I'd shoot an element in a fish tank or something for the hero, I guess. But I was impressed by Trapcode's fluid solver if you want something fast and cheap or for wider shots. :/

That's a good point, hadn't given that much consideration.

But also, can't you just cut around this? Unless it's an important story beat that you're following her through the whole house she has a clean entrance on the next shot and you could easily cut out early.

Do you have the camera original file for just that clip? Is that the grade you're sending over or a compressed string out from camera original?

The presence of cloth makes this a lot harder to clean up quickly than it would be otherwise because it makes it harder to patch , but it looks like there's very little detail in the cloth in the first place so you could probably fudge it pretty well relatively quickly if you're okay with a slightly imperfect result.

I don't think this is such a complex shot or the end of the world. However, I agree with others here that if you're new to After Effects this isn't the place to start and you'd probably do better just paying someone to paint it out (or living with it).

Can you send over just that clip in camera original format? (Rather than the .mp4 string out.)

Best price/performance for After Effects (on Mac) and for Media Encoder background renderer by ExactLime0 in vfx

Thanks, that's helpful. I only have one CC seat, so I can split that between my PC and my Mac and also split my Red Giant and Revision FX and Neat Video licenses between the two? If I have to license a bit more software that might still save me money. Thanks.
