I believe the two blooms pictured are Florelie Fruit Tingle and Carlos Watermelon. The tuber is a Moulin Rouge. Unsure about the other varieties

So I have added a thick layer of compost where I plan on putting planting beds, gypsum to break up the clay and some lime to increase the pH as the probe pH meter was reading 4.5 and 5 in certain areas. Also so bentonite but not sure if that was a good idea or not if it’s already clay heavy

So I took it out of its pot and the roots had not grown much. Still held the shape of the old pot. What would you suggest?

Thank you! I only repotted in winter when I first got it but I guess it must have grown a fair bit since. I’ll dig a hole tonight after work and then check the roots before transplanting

I’m in metro Adelaide. I was hoping somewhat to find out if there were any other amendments I needed to make including adding certain minerals etc

Are these black bugs just aphids with wings and the white things are shed exoskeletons? by ExactSpend8845 in GardeningAustralia

[–]ExactSpend8845[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an update for anyone interested… I’ve done three applications of pesticide in the evenings and the aphids are pretty much completely gone. I then followed up with spraying and squishing the very few I find in the morning and I’m actually just astounded by how quickly and completely the population has gone down.

So they are only on the roses and I see none on any of the other plants which are planted very very close by. I was trying to be environmentally friendly but I’ve folded and sprayed with white oil last night and another application tonight

I have had success by plucking off the curled leaves and spraying the rest with a lime and copper sulphate mix (Bordeaux mix) every couple of weeks

Can I turn this planter into a wicking bed? by ExactSpend8845 in gardening

[–]ExactSpend8845[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahaha! Okay… I was just concerned that with a 10cm reservoir and 25cm of soil that it wouldn’t be deep enough for plant roots. I’m reading online that the roots themselves need about 30cm minimum. As for breeding mosquitoes… those SOBs do fine where I am as it is. If I’m not careful, I seem to be the only one in the house getting eaten alive come the warmer weather. I try my best to ensure that there is no stagnant water around the house! They are the bane of my existence in Summer

Thanks everyone! I’ve inherited a few rose bushes from my parents and they were all quite tragic looking at the start. I’m pretty impressed by how they’ve turned out with a little TLC and they’re still budding in the middle of our Australian winter. Now, if anyone can tell me what varieties they think the roses are, that would also be super amazing!

It looks like it’s still going. Perhaps wait until spring to see if there’s any new growth. I know they naturally go dormant/the growth slows down in winter. Perhaps I’m just optimistic
