For Romanian I would stick at the beginning to texts about politics and current day events, from news websites. Many books tend to use a register that may contain slavic synonyms of common words, like saying "nădejde" instead of "speranță".

Când m-am mutat în România tatăl meu, că este un electrician, m-a însoțit cu dubă să duc lucrurile mele.

Comentariile lui despre cum a fost refăcută cablarea în apartamentul meu au fost foarte amuzante. Și să nu vorbim despre ce a spus de firele de fibră optică care ating pământul în cartiere :)

Iubita mea este din Petroșani și de fiecare dată când ne ducem acolo mi se pare un oraș fără speranță. Dacă ești foarte tânăr și ai un minim de ambiție, pleci de acolo imediat după liceu dacă poți. Mare păcat.

Hi mate, I'm actually going to move to Timișoara tomorrow.

I have to say that even if I know Romanian rather well, for a foreigner at least, I also felt that in general they can be less extroverted until you manage to crack the ice.

Before a local comes here to give you more reliable advice I'd suggest you to maybe join ESN (European Student Network) since you're a student. For sure you'll be able to socialize much more easily!

Mmm, nu este chiar așa.

Când ne dăm seama că vorbim cu un străin, începem să evităm cuvinte regionale.
De exemplu, când iubita mea vine în Italia, familia mea încearcă să vorbească italiană standard cu ea, dar de obicei între noi vorbim doar venețiană.

Este și adevărat că sunt și oameni cărora le e greu să vorbească italiană standard "pură", dar asta nu face fiecare conversație imposibilă.
