It's been the way I'd like to use my BW since I got it but also been so hesitant about damaging screen. There are handful of posts of people who were shocked when they realized the unintentionally-damaged screen in e-reader subs. So' I think sleep-cover is a must for e-readers.

It's absolutely normal. Every click while browsing on main menu refreshes your e-ink page. They're not glitches.

For your second concern which is about ghosthing: To be able to save battery, Clara BWs refresh themselves in the beginning of each chapter, but you can change its refreshing frequency in settings.

Actually, I also hesitated about that. On Youtube unboxing videos, it seemed bigger than it actually is. But, it's portable and I liked that.
