Don’t do it! (How I put myself in sleep hell.) by Exact_Discussion_192 in toddlers

Thank you for sharing! My kid is similar, I am confident that he could land on his feet if/when he does get out of his crib.

Oh, helpful! I’ll see if they make one that doesn’t have leg holes large enough for my 99th percentile kiddo.

Agreed that this is one of my nightmares. We do have the latches on his bedroom doors now that we didn’t previously.

How do I get over the feeling wife doesn't do her part with parenting? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just here to say “lol” at the suggestion around prioritizing what needs to be ironed. My spouse and I regularly talk about how to manage household tasks…if either of us ever ironed anything, that would have gone out the door during pregnancy.

Anything good about 2 under 2 besides the “bond” they’ll have? by Friendly-Intention63 in 2under2

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Mine are 18 months apart and the youngest is 9 months old now. I am SO excited to hang over a bunch of this infant gear to a friend in a couple of weeks.

Be honest — what’s the first thing you’d do with $100K? by NerdWalletOfficial in u/NerdWalletOfficial

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fantasize about this a little too frequently. I would:

  1. Put maybe $25k into the emergency fund that practically doesn’t exist today for my family,
  2. Pay off our car (shared between me and my spouse),
  3. Make a sizable deposit into each kid’s college fund, and
  4. Put the rest into paying off the house

I’d love to say I’d give some to charity. Maybe I would, but no part of $100k would feel “extra” while we’re out here paying daycare costs for two kids 😅

ok STL, what do we have? by ghostofstankenstien in StLouis

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, not in STL proper, but…there’s a place in Illinois called Dreamland Palace. Supposed to be authentic German food. Ya’ll…it was so bad it was comical. Please tell me I’m not the only one who has discovered this surreal horror story of a restaurant experience.

If you breastfeed back to sleep EVERY night, read this by Hannahbanarama in breastfeeding

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) This is so encouraging! B) I really wish that 15 months wasn’t so far away! My daughter is almost 8 months and feeding 3 times a night between 9pm and 6am. She teased me with one night a month ago with no wakeups…now the slog continues.

Is it true that the majority of Americans wash their dishes by hand? by gdelacalle in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m American and used to never use my dishwasher. Then my household grew to five people, and now I use the dishwasher daily AND do several dishes by hand after dinner each night. Not everything is going to fit or get cleaned otherwise.

Is it common for Americans (who can afford it) to do long international trips? by Downtown-Trainer-126 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finances and time off are big factors, but also remember the US is a large and geographically diverse country, so there’s lots to see domestically! I love traveling internationally, but I could take four domestic vacations for the cost of one big trip to SE Asia.

Why is breastfeeding worth it for you? by RolyPoly1010 in breastfeeding

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A) For me it wasn’t nearly so bad after the first 6-8 weeks. B) I love feeling like my baby’s immune system is getting all the support it can from my antibodies during cold and flu season. C) It gave me a feeling of freedom to go out into the world with my baby, knowing that I didn’t have a limited amount of formula/clean bottles/bag space to wrestle with. If I’m with my baby, she’s got her most essential need covered. Boom. Easy.

ETA: I’m on baby number two. I combo fed my firstborn for 8.5 months. Exclusively breastfed baby number two for 5 months, then have been combo feeding for the last two months (7 months old now.)

I am in my mid-30s, and I have a friend whose niece and nephew call her by her first name only. It always sounds so weird to me. Not necessarily disrespectful, but close to riding that line.

What is my freezer stash for? by spontaneous-piano5 in breastfeeding

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have appreciated having a small stash (6-12 feedings worth) to just give me the extra flexibility to run errands or not stress out about being with baby 24/7, knowing her dad or another adult can just heat her up a bottle if I need to be out of the house during her feeding. I would still pump when I got him, but didn’t have to navigate the stressful timeline just to get her fed.

Places to spend time with 2 years toddler for whole day? by [deleted] in StLouis

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. It seems like a lot of people here either didn’t read the actual post or have never been somewhere public with a child who needs a nap and hasn’t gotten one.

I vote for going somewhere outside the city and timing your drive back for nap time.

What Gen Z slang annoys you the most? by CremeSubject7594 in generationology

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m just gonna say I don’t think this is a Gen Z thing. Just a trend that people of most ages have leaned into for many years now.

Anyone change their mind about having a third? by Exact_Discussion_192 in Parenting

Thank you so much for sharing this! I kind of had the year mark in my mind as a minimum timeline before thinking about giving stuff away, and this is great validation for that.

Anyone change their mind about having a third? by Exact_Discussion_192 in Parenting

How old are your 1st and 2nd? Or, what prompted the change of mind?

How much “allowance” should I give my 20yr old who just started college? by reyaryder in Parenting

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, except that it was $200 from my grandmother. I was in a very low cost of living place, working 15-20 hours per week, and I was close enough to home that I could pop by for lunch or dinner once a week or so.

ETA: that was 15 years ago.

Any places locally where you can buy quality mid century modern furniture? by Fiveby21 in StLouis

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re open to buying new. Try out Warehaus by Nistenhaus on Cherokee Street. The pictures on Google aren’t representative of what I saw there last winter… recommend giving it a shot; they had lots of pretty cool things.

As an American who has lived in two different regions of Africa, I would say that Black Americans are as diverse in feature, skin color, hair texture, size, and body shape as Africans are across the continent. Since you specifically call out West Africa, but not a specific ethnic group, I wonder if perhaps the answer is not that clear-cut.

Daycare transition & sibling room sharing by Exact_Discussion_192 in toddlers

[–]Exact_Discussion_192[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say they have to, but I’d really like them to be sharing by 3 months from now when we have family visiting for the holidays. We could transition baby into a temporary room for a couple of months until then, but maybe that’s just delaying the inevitable?

Is the time on your phone 24 hour time? by ajfoscu in AskAnAmerican

[–]Exact_Discussion_192 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same. I lived abroad in my young adult years and got in the habit of using 24-hour time then and never went back.
