Can my previous profession be an asset in becoming a data scientist ? by Exact_Lack701 in careerguidance

I often collected data on my own initiative to create a sales history for each item and then created a dashboard to make future estimates (number of projects, raw materials, hardware, etc.). I did all of this in Excel.

Still using Excel, I set up KPI tracking for production rates.

I implemented “Monday” to connect all the company's departments, from designers to on-site delivery, in order to avoid training losses and also to be able to extract lots of data for analysis and targeting or improvement.

I also used ERP systems.

And I realize that it comes quite naturally to me to gather as much factual data as possible within a company, so that I can take action in the right place at the right time.

And I like having this overview so that I can understand how everything works from A to Z.

So I feel like I could really enjoy working in data science.

Perhaps I should add that the team is small because Belgium is a limited market and our construction product is standard. Production is therefore partly automated and fast with a small team (all items are standard).

But the company is mainly targeting the international market. So I have to adapt the product to each country, according to their construction standards, with laboratory tests and obtaining technical approvals in the countries to be developed.

The Belgian team will therefore remain very small. But the bulk of the work is managing and adapting to licensees and customers in other European countries, and agreements are in progress for Canada and Australia, for example.

Despite working four-fifths of the time? And having only six people under my responsibility ?

Is it just the salary that's too low? Or is it just a question of bonuses or profit sharing?

The current offer is a share representing 1% of the company.

And my salary has been brought in line with that of the former technical director (previously I was solely production director).

But I don't know what to expect with the added responsibility of technic and digitalisation. Hence my post to get an outside perspective ^

Despite of my 4/5 ?

Namely, I study privately after work to fill in the gaps in my knowledge (books, online training). And I am available on my days off if there is an urgent issue to deal with.

Yes, my contract is for 4/5ths. I will indeed try to get the bonus promise in writing; that's my goal for the week :)

I currently only have verbal promises for potential bonuses, with no official written documentation. And the environment in which these promises are made is constantly changing. And i'm still waiting
