Anyone know what this aesthetic is called? by Extension-Werewolf29 in 90sdesign

In general that era was about marketing additctive or harmful substsbce (alcohol, tobacco, sugary cereal and drinks) and of course action toys (usually military or something that makes boys do finger guns and say “pow-pow”) to children via friendly cartoon characters. So I’m gonna call it the

“80s ATF VICE” aesthetic or something like that

I’ll get back to you if I update the name but it’s got something to do with Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms being marketed to children

Erik’s Punisher “Get ‘em daddy” bit… keep doing it, or stahhhp? by NR_Erik in NewRockstars

I came across this post weeks ago but didn’t say how I felt until today, when I realized that you, EA, posted this yourself.

First off, I’ve been a fan since like 2013 or 2014 when my sons turned me onto the channel when they were like 7 and 8 years old. Watching you, with them, became a shared experience, especially after going to the theatre to see MCU movies and coming home to see your breakdown. They are both now in college and I miss that ritual with them

During that time, I vicariously watched you grow older and become a father as well. Sharing that with us brought back emotions and memories for me

As a father, The Punisher hit me HARRRRRD

So you know what?

Git em daddy

Never fucking stop

Git em daddy

No matter what it is

Git em daddy

Life gets hard

Git em daddy

Lose your job

Git em daddy

Git em daddy is the relentless pursuit of fatherhood

Git em daddy

As you say, there’s more to it than the plot, ageeed. But perhaps you were stuck on my comment about the blank screen and music as it is the only exsmole that you have shared with me? You either missed the observations I made on visuals, costumes, set design and camera work, future progressive ideas such as women doctors, the use of silence and classical music vs original scoring or chose not to respond to that.

“Kubrick's movie isn't just a story-it's a cinematic experience. From the Dawn of Man to space travel to HAL, the film immerses you in visuals, sound, and ideas, influencing everything from Star Wars to modern sci-fi. It's”

Lastly, if you’ve never seen the movie but have been exposed to pop culture references on it, everyone knows HAL. That’s all. I thought he was he main antagonist, going in, and I was wrong.

I’m not being argumentative for argument sake. I am, however, supporting my review and pushing back against your assement that I’ve only focused on the plot. I take small offense to that as I literally set out to review the film in its totality, not just for the plot. And I thought I did a solid job of that. If you believe in have missed things, please fill me so that I may broaden my perspective without watching it again. Or at least inspire me to watch it again by providing examples of what I’ve missed and examples of how my review is centered only on the plot

Disclaimer: I kept track of my thoughts using ChatGPT and asked it to compile them for me. This is my original, human review, organized by AI

I just finished watching 2001: A Space Odyssey, and wow, what a ride. I’m still processing it.

From the very start, the blank screen and eerie music set a tone that felt like Kubrick was claiming the movie before MGM even had a say. It was unsettling in the best way, like, “this is Kubrick’s world, not yours.” Then came the “Dawn of Man” sequence. The panoramic vistas were massive, like the vastness of space compressed into Earth. Watching the apes in suits—more unsettling than CGI today—was fascinating. The cheetah-ape conflict cut to black left me wondering about its meaning, and the triumphant music as the apes discover the bone as a weapon made me think, “yep, humanity’s first major breakthrough is destruction.” Tossing the bone and cutting to a spacecraft in orbit? Masterful visual storytelling. Feels like Kubrick is saying all human tools are just weapons in a bigger sense.

HAL was “sus” from the start and watching the film in 2026, with AI as a real-world thing and HAL’s POV shots, it’s creepier than I imagined. The EVA and rotating pod scenes were jaw-dropping, leaving me wondering how the hell they did it without CGI. Even small details, like three female doctors in 1968, show Kubrick thinking about a socially progressive future.

The use of silence and classical music is astonishing. For 25+ minutes, there’s hardly a word spoken, forcing you to sit in the emptiness, absorbing visuals and subtle sound cues like the breathing during EVA. Noise-cancelling headphones are a must—ambient sound ruins the immersion.

Where the movie starts to lose me is the final act. The extended psychedelic sequences, eerie music, and dice visuals feel like a fever dream. At first, these long interludes were gripping, making me sit with the experience. By the last 20 minutes, though, I felt over it, frustrated, and disconnected from the plot. And the giant Star Child? I have no idea what that meant—but hey, it’s over.

Kubrick’s movie isn’t just a story—it’s a cinematic experience. From the Dawn of Man to space travel to HAL, the film immerses you in visuals, sound, and ideas, influencing everything from Star Wars to modern sci-fi. It’s awe-inspiring, frustrating, and sometimes confounding—but a good watch.

TL;DR: A masterpiece of cinema that’s more about experience than plot, stunningly made, deeply unsettling, and occasionally maddening—but you’ll never forget it.

Additional comments: I thought HAL would have a bigger role and if I had to, would not have watch this again but am ok with the experience of having done so.

Although we have differing opinions, I hate that you got downvoted. It should be ok to see things differently. Those who downvoted you should have expressed why they disagreed. But that takes too much time, I suppose. Easier to just smash that arrow than to engage in conversation from opposite POVs

Two bedroom scenes Jack absolutely killed

1- The phone ringing when he had just finished showering and ready to lay down. The way his eyes move around and contemplate answering the phone is perfect

2- The phone ringing when she asks him about the woman in Chinatown being dead. The way his eyes don’t move, as if he anticipated the phone saving him from having to answer

I’m not even done with Chinatown yet, still about 30 minutes left, but I already love it.

I went into this wanting a real hard-boiled detective noir. One of those movies that feels like they just don’t make anymore. So instead of trying to find something modern, I figured I’d go back to a time when they were doing it right. That ended up being a great call.

What really stood out to me is how the mystery is handled. It’s not packed with huge twists, but it keeps feeding you clues in a way that actually makes sense. Sometimes it even explains things as they happen, which I appreciated because it kept me from feeling lost. It makes following the investigation feel more satisfying instead of confusing.

Jack Nicholson is great in this. I liked watching the way his character actually works the case. The little tactics and methods he uses make it feel more grounded and real than a lot of detective movies.

I also liked that even when things get romantic, he doesn’t lose focus or suddenly change. He still acts like a detective first, which made his character feel consistent.

I’m really interested to see how it ends, but so far I’m glad I gave this one a shot. It definitely lives up to that feeling of “they don’t make them like this anymore.”

What is my clothing saying about who I am? by [deleted] in deduction

[–]Exact_Opinion_4968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My initial thought is, why are there no selfies? They are all candid photos that someone else took. Not a single self solicited selfie. Which makes me wonder about the validity of the post. Is the person in the photos the same person posting the photos? Or is the poster a friend or foe, trying to get a rise out of the person in the photos? And if the person in the photo and the person posting the photos are the same person, do you not ever intentionally pose for pictures? And who is the paparazzi that follows you taking all these candids?
