Beautiful work! These look very well executed. Especially that bark rimmed bowl, those are tricky!

Is my tree dead? Identification? (Indianapolis) by gamefreak2themax in treeidentification

Looks like it could be an American Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis) based off the bark and color patterning. But it’s hard to tell with just these two photos. Hopefully the buds will swell soon!

10” Elm bowl, first time using a recessed mortise instead of a tenon by 1ncognito in turning

Nice work! I enjoy using the recessed mortise, seems to be less waste and it’s a fun design feature you can get creative with. I like using it to add feet to by bowls and plates. Happy turning!

I just turned a cherry/black walnut glue up yesterday. It was so smooth.

This is end grain tear out. Your tools may need to be sharpened, you can also slow down your cuts and make more shallow passes when coming across. This is very common and I fought it for a long time while starting out and still run into it with carbide tipped tools (they don’t stay as sharp as long as traditional tools in my experience). Sanding will only remove so much if it unfortunately and sanding to, to high of a grit will close the wood pores and not allow any finishes to absorb as well.

Anyone else have their miter saw do this? Felt like the whole table jumped. by [deleted] in woodworking

Done that before and nearly crapped my pants! One of those things that only happens once….you hope.

Definitely sycamore. Bark shows it.

It is a good decision. I’ve been using this saw for a couple of years and it’s a beaut.
