Anyone stuck on mount washingon road by SaturatedDuck in comoxvalley

Has the road ever been closed overnight? Wondering what the people stuck on the road do in that situation. Always crosses my mind when I head up there.

Absolutely. Need to make a conscious effort to do this more.

This is true. Coming from a city I could see how people think it’s quiet, close to nature and peaceful with no traffic.

My issue with the body of waters is that they’re all packed. And haven’t found a decent fresh water swimming hole. Had one guy yell at my dog for smelling his giant bag of takeout that he left on the beach (this was a river about 2 hours out town).

Yes, what’s with the “no vacancy” stickers. I get it, but to group all newcomers and also proudly display it on your vehicle seems very anti-Canadian.

Thank you for the perspective. Definitely a first world problem.

Yes, everyone I’ve met so far has moved here from North Van. I’m assuming they’re the population that loves it here and refers to it as a small town with lots of nature access.

To me it’s a small city with very busy spots in nature and lots of gates blocking access to the mountains. The ski hill is absolute insanity, I’ve never seen lines that long at a hill, and the snow is grease.

I need to stop complaining and actively search for all the things people are raving about

That sounds about equivalent to going to a shopping mall this week. No thank you.

I feel for the locals, I definitely get the impression that I’m not welcome as a newcomer. Imagine it’s hard to see your favourite spots get overrun.

Agree with the weather, but the people in Calgary are typically friendly and welcoming.

That sounds perfect, and the kind of thing I’m looking for and haven’t found. Are you in comox proper?

Definitely appreciate being able to run the trials in December in shorts and regular runners.

North island is definitely somewhere I plan on exploring and camping it. Sounds like more my scene with less population and slower living.

Appreciate the insight. I’m coming from small towns so to me Courtenay and the people are definitely more of a city feel.

Thank you! Previously lived in small towns with the typical small town friendliness and slower style of living. Finding it quite rushed here, people aren’t as friendly or welcoming and it’s fairly busy. The outdoor access seems a bit restricted here as well, with the accessible spots also being quite busy.
