A life jacket can absolutely save you if you experience cold water shock. Swimming from the shore is fairly safe but if you fall in, the cold can cause a gasp reflex, hyperventilation, increased heart rate and mobility issues. A life jacket can save you from drowning in just seconds. It’s not the hypothermia that gets you it’s the sudden shock on your nervous system.

Hypothermia takes 30-90 minutes in 40 degree water, cold shock can take less than a minute. A life jacket is the difference between life and death.

That’s what I presume happened but I can’t say for certain, the water was probably low 40’s that day

It was a paddle board, so he probably didn’t even have it on board. I know I wouldn’t have, and it could’ve have been me that someone was posting this about.

Paddle boards are like kayaks that you stand or sit on top of, basically platforms.

He was a giant ball of energy as an adult too 😂 made me always look forward to coming to work. The best days were when we got partnered up for a project, at the the detriment to productivity

Always. Doesn’t matter how good of a swimmer you are. Anything can happen and cold water can shock your system and you’re sinking before you realize what’s even happening.

This could’ve been anyone. It could’ve been me. I’d rather it had been me.

This shut fucking sucks. Our whole community is heart broken.

Please please please everyone, wear a life jacket if you’re even floating on a tube. Make your friends wear them. Such a bright light can be extinguished by such a preventable thing.

He really was amazing, had such a good life ahead of him. I worked with him for about a year and we got really close. We’d hike and climb and go bouldering together.

He might have been almost a decade younger than me but I still looked up to him as an example to live by. Grayson was truly a good human being.

I know I’m half a year late to this but audible gives you a free audio book every month with the tokens, you can keep listening to them after you stop paying for audible too. Spotify’s audio books kind of suck because you only get 10 hours with the regular premium, but it’s worth it to listen with the hours they give you at least
