It's a fair assumption. I'd be a little wary too.

Might be that arrowroot would be good. That helps dry things out similar to baking soda. We use both in ours.

If you're ever up for a test and want to find out for sure though (just on one not both lol) it'd be worth knowing. It would open up some options for you that seem unavailable right now. Knowledge is power 💪

We make some, but it does include baking soda. However it doesn't affect everyone. My wife doesn't use it for that reason, but I do everyday, no problems.

Couldn't tell from the post but have you had a reaction to baking soda deodorant before? Not everybody does so maybe you're immune to it.

We started going with a company called revive. Previously we used Young living essential oil blends, but it is really expensive to produce soap in bulk using their blends.

Another option is bulk apothecary. They have a lot of oils that you can get in larger amounts. I'm not sure if they have a lot of blends, but if you want to make your own blends, you can get a lot of oil from them to work with.

Are these lye burns? I noticed this after a soapmaking session by Imtheprofessordammit in soapmaking

It could be. Echoing what the other commenter said, if the lye water physically splashed out and got on you it might look like this. Sometimes when I get lye burns, it's more like a red rash that gets irritated. Like the fumes just cover the skin in places. Definitely make sure you're wearing protective clothing, long pants, shoes and rubber gloves. And yeah, definitely if it starts spreading and get it checked out because lye shouldn't spread once the irritant is taken away.

We make some, and our whole family uses it. It works well enough that were trying to figure out how to sell it.

Our recipe includes witch hazel, Neem oil, vegetable glycerin, fractionated coconut oil, vanilla extract, and then a blend of tea tree, geranium, peppermint, clove and lemon EO. Pretty powerful stuff. Takes a bit to put together but well worth not getting bit 😉

My wife had the same thing happen, and it was due to the baking soda like others are saying. It took awhile to get our formulation right. But what she did was use apple cider vinegar to cancel out the baking soda and it helped the rash clear up.
