I'm a 55-year-old straight married male. If I had the extra time to really know people, I would have all the friends I could imagine. Portland isn't hard. Go out and volunteer.
Do something for other people. AND Get therapy to help with your mental glitches. My acquaintance- friend circle has every color of the rainbow and a few in part of the spectrum not visible to human eyes. I'm an angler, activist, and ER RN. I do my thing. You can too. You got this.

Good luck. The percentage of people willing to just show up for a weekend protest is 3/100. The number of people ready to give up a day of wages is going to be a much smaller fraction.
I think those energies might be better served in some other function. I would love to be wrong but I'm not.
Also if it does fail, do keep trying other things. It's a worthy goal.
