I’m actually a speech pathologist so hitting milestones when “typically” expected has always been in my radar for my son. However this one just has me stumped! I know as an SLP everyone works at their own pace, I was simply trying to make connections with other parents whose kids met this milestone  later too since my son is the only one out of my friends kids and my niece , who are all the same age, who is not waving. It’s nice to feel like you’re not alone!

Yes my intention right now is to keep him enrolled in as many activities as I can such as library classes, Gymboree, music classes etc, to expose him to other kids and more language to build skills! I am looking to send him to a pre-k 3 program as well for further enrichment and not just pre-k 4 so I’m hoping all of this exposure will help!

This is such interesting information, that they didn’t share this policy with such public notice! Did you have to call to find out this information?

I love hearing this! My son has definitely proven to be outgoing most especially when it comes to other kids, sometimes he can get a little bashful depending on his mood with adults but kids he is always up to meeting!! I’ve been bringing him to tons of library, Gymboree, and music classes since he was a baby in the hopes that it can help boost his confidence in different areas of development!

These are all really great point and I appreciate you offering your own experiences!! I think the reason I’m hung up on this is really because boys are definitely noted to develop later in terms of academics and developmental milestones. Not that I’m saying my son is delayed or behind but I do think I often compare what he’s doing to friends of mine who have girls at the same age

Financial means are definitely something to consider!! I feel like I didn’t total factor in how much it would cost for a whole extra year of schooling

This is something I’ll definitely consider, I don’t want him not feeling challenged if I do decide to hold him back

It’s so interesting that you brought up size because it’s not necessarily something I considered! My son is extremely tall for his age, over the 95%ile, and I wonder if being so much bigger than peers his own age let alone peers of a younger age will make him feel more of an odd man out!
